Wayyyyy too short, especially given the size of it. Music's nice and the gameplay was decent though.

Anyone else here try the new XCOM demo they put out? I really enjoyed it, but it was rather short. About an hour's worth of gameplay or so.

It was more like 15 minutes of gameplay and 45 of cutscenes and tutorial, what little I did play was fun though.

I think they simplified X-COM too much for the new one. The geoscape seems to function more like a board game, and you can't have multiple bases(?).

That said, going to preorder it as soon as I physically can.

You have one main base, plus launching centers for your interceptors and you get a satellite network to manage as well.

That's not really the same though. In the original you could have your very first base completely wiped out without losing.

Only being able to have one central base of operations seems like it'll change the dynamics - I'm not sure how that'll work out personally.

They axed base invasions, IIRC, so that's not as much of an issue. I assume the aliens will probably still try to attack it (or your sub-bases) somehow, but an actual invasion? Nah.

Alright, so I got to use the netbook for the first time in a month or two - and guess what? It recovered the post.

Stay tuned for your (somewhat) regularly scheduled programming.

Completely. The first game especially has actually aged really well.

Excepting the terrible animation (or lack there of) and clunky UI.
The gameplay is still pretty much the exemplar of the genre.
