Re: Thinkin' about buying some Warhammer 40k models
So I've been painting a bit and..uh.. my brand new badab black reeks of something absolutely rotten. My old one is just fine, but this one has a really repulsive and vile smell.
What the hell GW?
-edit-
looks like my never used devlan mud is affected as well. When I my nose approached the pot I nearly retched.
God damn it, now my terminator smells like it's rotting.

Yeah the washes can smell "funny" to say the least.
Never heard about such an extreme case though....

Re: Thinkin' about buying some Warhammer 40k models
The worst bit is that I painted the whole miniature without noticing it too much. But it really is damned putrid. I guess it's kind of understandable though, since the washes appear to be made with some sort of oil. And oil can go bad with too much heat.
This kind of puts me off from buying paints online.

Re: Thinkin' about buying some Warhammer 40k models
Yeah, paints are something I always buy off the shelf of a store I trust. Even then, it's usually better to open them on the same day, to check for anything amiss. Today, I opened up a fresh can of metallic copper I'd bought a few weeks ago, only to find that the metal had sedimented so hard I had to spend twenty minutes scraping it off and stirring the mixture. Even now, it's pretty hard to get an even coverage with it.
But perhaps you could leave the mini outside for a while, to see if it gets a bit more bearable, then try to seal it off with some varnish.

Re: Thinkin' about buying some Warhammer 40k models
The smell on the mini itself as subsided to being completely odorless. I would try leaving the pots open for a whole night too see if I'd get the same result, but I am not going near them anytime soon.
Now that I've started painting faces I'm in dire need of a brush finer than the citadel fine detail. Any suggestions?

God damn it, now my terminator smells like it's rotting. I guess he just turned into a plague marine? If I screw up a model, I just attach various crap to it that seems to make sense, and make it a chaos unit.

Still needs a good badab black wash, and the eyes look retarded, but I'm quite proud of this one.

Re: Thinkin' about buying some Warhammer 40k models
I do agree, looking rather crisp. The upper part of the mouth looks a tad messy, though. Also, pilot for my... vehicle. Pretty proud of the plasma gun and auspex on this one, took me ages to do. And sure, I know I forgot to paint the left hand, I'm fixing it as I post this.

It's always entertaining when you think the model's done, but then there's a limb unpainted.
About the guy. Well, if you'd slap some legs on him he's pretty much tabletop worthy. Just needs a proper wash and you're done.

Finally happy with the body. Now just gotta finish the arms. And legs. And shoulder guards. And weapons. Also, the banner and pilot are pinned, so it can count as a dread, ven dread or kan. And oh heavens seeing it amplified in the picture makes me notice a hundred mistakes I've done. I think this evening's gonna be a cleanup fest.

Re: Thinkin' about buying some Warhammer 40k models
It's from the battlewagon's turret, got it for five cents on B&K.
Also, yeah, I was actually pretty curious about your models, specially the senti-kans you were making a while ago, so pics would be nice.
Oh yeah, and I bought some parts to make a MoTF, should be arriving in a month or so.

Re: Thinkin' about buying some Warhammer 40k models
Still haven't done any work on my raider, mainly due to the lack of a good ultramarine primer. Damn shame. And I have no idea why, but the necrons are really starting to grow on me. I may buy a single miniature - or a whole squad if it's not too pricey - just for kicks. - edit - Like this bargain right here.
