Re: LudumDare 17
Yeah, I'm thinking of adding digging and possibly collectables in later versions, but I have so many other ideas that also need developing Digging is much more of a short term goal though. Regardless, it should have got to where it is now with about 10 hours less development time, but I've learnt quite a bit along the way If I do keep working on it past the PANORAMA release (with the 3 todo items in the readme completed) I'll start adding things like that, maybe being able to construct blocks if you mine out some form of stone, and probably make pirates spawn from ships to plunder your base. Regardless, it's intended as a short-lived timewaster, as an aside from my normal huge projects that eat time and don't get finished. I'm trying so hard not to feature creep it, haha.

Re: LudumDare 18
ITS THAT TIME AGAIN
I might do it, though I'm caught up in a lot of other stuff (such as a party tonight starting in one hour, acting for a friends short film tomorrow and writing a seminar I still haven't started + the usual slacking). Its kind of a fun theme to think about, but I'll have less than 5 hours total possible dev time, in reality. That's enough time to prototype something if I don't get caught up in graphics, but I'm not sure how worth it it would be. I'll most likely just vamp the awesome attitude everyone has towards this as motivation to work on prelude (EXILE is on the backburner at the moment sorry guise). Anyone else thinking of doing it? Cause you should.

Re: LudumDare 18
I might. I need to come up with an idea first, though. Plus I've already got 3 other programming projects right now, but I guess two days of not working on them isn't going to kill anybody (I mean, I've been slacking on most of them all summer).

Heh, I've usually got far too many projects for anything to really get done, I'm glad to see someone else does something similar.

Re: LudumDare 18
Theme sucks, I'm out. Unless you totally take the theme out of context or use it as a minor part of your game I don't see how you could come up wit a unique idea, try to prove me wrong, even if you do the theme still sucks by being very specific, unlike Medieval, Technology in the wrong time period and Evolution to name a few of the other losing themes.

I actually really like that idea TLB, reminds me of captain forever a little, I'll be sure to play it post-compo. its night time here now <_< I haven't done anything for this, though I've beat some kinks out of prelude.

Notch will probably win: http://www.mojang.com/compo/metagun/I admit this is one game concept I didn't think of, shooting enemies... out of your weapon, most literal manifestation of the theme "enemies as weapons". Haven't really looked at many other games but none of the others seems to have original gameplay.

Re: LudumDare 18
38s remaining on the download TLB. Will play. Also robolee, there's not really any "winning" in LD. It's more of a "Lets make some games" thing EDIT: had a play, and enjoyed the concept though it didn't feel as hectic as I would've liked. It also lagged a little on my lappy fun enough though, glad you got that rush of "OH GOD GET THIS FINISHED"

Re: LudumDare 18
ugh, ♥♥♥♥ notch's game
it decides to take the idea of 'a neat gameplay hook that should be explored' and turn it into LOL GO THROUGH A MAZE WITH FIDDLY JUMPING MECHANICS WHILE GETTING SHOT A LOT
AND ♥♥♥♥ THAT INTERESTING NEW MECHANIC I JUST BROUGHT UP, BECAUSE IT'S COMPLETELY USELESS TO YOU

Jeez, lag?! Now I remember why I haven't been using Game Maker. I seriously can't think of anything going on in there that should be lagging

TheLastBanana wrote: Jeez, lag?! It's more related to my 1.8GHz processor than game maker, I'm sure. Also yeah, I didn't enjoy notch's game too much (I got weird hangs during the testing builds <_<), but whatever, it's a cool event full of mixed-bag games. Jam's still going too, which is rad for debugging

There are winners, hence the whole reason there's a voting. True it's not the main reason for joining but it's one incentive.
