Whitelist has been done. I have expanded the map to 512x512x128 though, so it violates your principle of universal access, THOR.

Post Re: Duh102's Minecraft server
This is the beginning of the Thorvian Coliseum--where honorable men are tested in the vicegrip of mortal man-against-man and team-on-team combat.

The red and gray monstrosity you see below is the first draft of my "spleef" combat arena. The red cloth layer is above a four-brick void below. Besides the obstacles, it is so far a pretty vanilla arena. The obstacles are made of gravel (and as such are considered "destroyable"). Players will be allowed to stand on the gravel or cloth sections (since they both will give way to the pits below! Anything made of gravel or cloth is fair game to be deleted on the fields of combat.

I know the obstacles are boring. I am up to suggestions and modifications. Please don't make edits directly to the playing field. If you have an idea and I am not in the server, post a picture or create a version of it outside of the arena.

I hope to get some DRL duels and team games. Duh and I were briefly discussing how a capture the flag aspect could be implemented. Suggestions regarding the field of battle or the gameplay mechanics are gladly accepted!

Also, there will eventually be stadium seating and luxury club boxes once the pitch is hammered out.

Because this question has been asked several times: I DO allow hacks. However, use common sense. Things like fly, run, and jump hacks are fine and good.
But, I will reiterate, I do not accommodate griefing in the least. You grief, you get banned, no coming back. I have logs and backups every 10 minutes.

@Thor's wondrous arena.

Possible map feature: strategically placed towers, with large pillars of sand sitting on suspended gravel blocks. delete the block, sand falls down in an unexpected, road blocking fashion onto the combatants below.

Duh, you might want to consider editing the backup script to not backup when there is no one in the server. Should save on storage overhead. You could also try doing a cronjob that hashes the minefiles and disposes of identical backups.

Oops. Double posted. Don't hurt me.
Don't worry, I'll be gentle -Duh

Part two of the History Channel special on The Thorvian Coliseum.

As you can see the structural obstacles in the arena have been dramatically changed. Elaborate, collapsable structures of been erected of concrete and gravel. There are gravel hills supported by concrete pylons. Remove these pylons, and you eliminate a strategic asset of the opposite number or team.

A central span crossing the length of the pitch allows players a more dramatic duel. Charge up the gangway to meet your opponent, and be the first to be thrown from the bridge.

Various structures allow for a mild use of stealth and surprise, and others for hiding from a doggedly determined enemy.

The Thorvian Coliseum, although in its infancy, shall prove to be a keystone of mine combat for ages to come.

This is episode three of the inside look at the Thorvian Coliseum.

Today, the arena floor and its obstacles were finalized. Team colors were painted to the woodwork on the pitch. And an exciting pair of crow's nests were added to the Duel Span to add dimension to the man-to-man events!

Additionally, construction on the stadium seating began today, and the East entrance was unveiled. Visible under construction are the leasable skyboxes at the North and South gladiatorial entrances.

Work progresses steadily throughout the day. Stay tuned for the next episode.

I'll take the lazy way out: Hash the current and last backups and backup if need be. I'm not entirely sure how much work eliminating old backups would entail, and I don't feel like doing so. Besides, currently both backup repositories I keep take up only 100meg of a 120gig drive, I'm not worried about them.

@ProjektTHOR, thanks for not destroying my Thing in the background.
Also, that looks good, maybe mlc will use for PVP xD.

Anyways, hope no hard feelings.
I wanted to make a joke, but i can't, itll make you madder, so ill shutup. (for now)

EDIT: suggestion for Capture the Flag,
1. Well, not really a good one, but we could use Crazy's dnD mechanics.
2. We could play it like, with a dice, or tag.
3. Person would have to place a delete the "flag box" all the way to there side, to stop them, you have to build a wall infront of him.

Well, if your still mad at don't conisder the ideas.
