 Re: Minecraft Survival Multiplayer Server
With the addition of the BiomeTerrainSSP mod, Minecraft has become more interesting for me. To begin, I upped the size of both biomes (10x normal size) and horizontal fracture, making elevation changes more gradual (though sharp changes are still possible due to some other settings I won't get into.) Second, I lowered the seafloor, making both deeper and wider bodies of water. Finally, I fundamentally changed how ore spawns. Now, instead of having a more-or-less even coating of ore all around, ore is sparsely spread in small packets around the surface (between Z levels 32 and 64), and increasingly huge deposits lower down, with a very low rate of incidence per chunk. This will lend to some interesting gameplay, I think, as once you hit one of the huge ore deposits, you can safely mine the entire thing out for quite some time before worrying about moving on. For comparison, here is a normal SSP ore distribution compared to a modified distribution. I in fact may want to further reduce the incidence of ore deposits because they are still too densely packed for my tastes. As far as how the map looks on the surface, do compare the overviews. This map is a normally generated map, the same one pictured in the "before" ore distribution map. The second is my modded generation, and I'm quite happy with what appears to be a large island as my spawn point. I'm hoping to find some smaller islands further west (upper left in the map, I think), and perhaps a huge island that would stand in for a continent toward the east. If anyone wants my settings, here you are: Mediafire

The ore thing is actually pretty clever and more realistic.

 Re: Minecraft Survival Multiplayer Server
I'm thinking it would make the game more fun, when you happen upon a huge ore deposit and you're set for the next few ingame months of crafting. During testing I had the incidence of surface deposits way out of proportion so every few blocks of stone were replaced with iron or coal ore. It was somewhat funny, since you couldn't dig into rock without hitting either of them.

 Re: Minecraft Survival Multiplayer Server
Could that be thrown into MCAdmin and the server?

 Re: Minecraft Survival Multiplayer Server
I checked quickly and it looks like he has made an SMP version, much to my delight, but it looks like it won't be compatible with McAdmin. Reason being, you have to have the new .jar in your classpath as well as the server jar, and I'm not sure McAdmin allows you to change that. If you want to try, here's the link to the forum post where he releases it (it's not been officially released in the OP yet, just a super-early release for people who are desperate for awesome terrain). HOWEVER, it looks like you might be able to fix this by extracting the .class files from the .jar and put them into MCAdmin's mods folder like the stuff for Runecraft, or directly inserting them into the server.jar. I'll take a look into it, I have some time this morning. EDIT: You can do it, but you have to insert the mod manually into the minecraft_server.jar. Here's such a .jar and the .ini file with most of my settings copied into it. The terrain modifiers are all changed since the SSP version, and it looks like it can't modify the size of ore deposits, only frequency and rarity (frequency being how often it should appear in a given group of chunks, and rarity being in how many chunk groups it should appear in).

 Re: Minecraft Survival Multiplayer Server
Tommorow the update will apparently contain fall damage, drowning, Player Vs Monster and respawn fixes but most importantly Players will now be able to deal damage to players this might impact how we play alot, will the server rapidly turn into a medieval style free for all? with each bartering for survival against whomever modhaxxed the diamond sword haha i doubt it, but now there might be the occaisional case of murder we should build some modhaxx cells

 Re: Minecraft Survival Multiplayer Server
Likely what will happen is the core somewhatoldfag crowd will stick together, leaving the non-DRL members to either fend for themselves or join them. I'll probably go hermit somewhere.

Here's hoping. I won't be on tomorrow, so I'm gonna shoddy a spot in the armory for the DRL death squad making swords and ♥♥♥♥.
