Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is a roguelike that has become quite popular on IRC. Main objective is to retrieve the Orb of Zot or something. This is much easier said than done. This game is practically the definition of trial and error, not to mention the fact that luck plays a pretty big role. You will die a lot in the beginning until you figure out what does and doesn't work. This game is horribly addicting and fun.

This. I've had this game for at least 3 years, and while I haven't played that much, I just couldn't play with the tileset. It would feel wrong.

Well, I tried Orc Priest of Beogh. I must say, anything else is jus' muckin' about.
Without further ado, I get "Roight Orky" in the Orc Mines.
God help my enemies, because my endless horde sure won't. Not to metion the fact that my friendly orcs can level up and Beogh has been handing out priesthoods and magic armor like candy! I'z da warboss cuz I'z da biggest! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

Been playing this for few months on and off. Its such an awesome game.
Also playing with tiles ruins the fun...

My skeletons keep vanishing.

They get lost real real easy.

They usually get stuck on corners and such. Worshiping a god that lets you recall your minions, like Yderelemnul, really helps out in this regard.

Holy is this game addicting I can't stop playing it's so good i've been playing for like 4 hours straigh... i need help.

Uh. I'd best finish the important stuff before I start this..

It'd be better to get addicted later when I don't have to do things.

Is it normal to die often?

Yes. I've been playing for three years and I suck.

If you want, you can savescum. Save your game, copy your folder somewhere away, continue. If you die, replace your folder with the copied one.
Do this every time you save the game, and save often.

So this is a crappy version of Nethack? Really?

I haven't played it yet, but it looks like any number of the shitty Nethack ripoffs.

What makes this any better than Nethack?
