Transcendence is a nethack-like 2d space shooter. Arrow keys to move, space and shift to fire main weapons and missiles, standard stuff.
Fullartin from the Whitty's Minecraft server introduced me and I fell in love at the words "It's like Freelancer in 2d".
It's damn hard at first but once you get going it's a lot of fun. Read the readme.html, the hotkeys are in there.

They have a screensaver version too, in case you want some spaceships battling it out on your screen when you're not around.

Played this ages ago, back when it was in Beta. I went to this space arena like place and fought there for cash.

Holy ♥♥♥♥ this is fun.

I just go around in the Wolfen, raiding cargo lines. Don't get charged with piracy, though.

It's like Crawl, in space. Which is inherently awesome.
