Simply put, I would like some sprites for Bolter/Hellgun turrets, around the size of the Coalition Gatling Turret, to be used in the 40K recomp (and, by extension, Unmapped Lands), but all of my attempts at spriting them so far have failed miserably.

All I need for this are decent sprites that visually fit the Imperial Guard and Space Marines - any code contribution is absolutely optional, but of course helpful, as I'll be handling most of that myself. There aren't many small turrets to base things off of that I've been able to find, unfortunately, so no reference images.

AA Autocannon/SAM turrets would also be nice, but are not important or at all required.

I don't really see where's the difficulty in doing this :???:

Just spend some time with references, keep size limits and shade it properly.

This was something I made a while ago, which kinda look like a lascannon. Maybe you can find a use for it? Change the sprite as you wish.

Maybe because I'm no good at spriting? Sure, I can do a bit, but not nearly as much as most. I'm nowhere near confident enough in my skills at making them from scratch to pull it off, and all of my attempts so far have been terrible.

Also, note "around the size of the Coalition Gatling Turret". Yes, there are bigger IG Turrets, but there are very few smaller ones, hence why no reference could be provided. I don't want a gigantic thing!

Re-size it then! I sended you a scratch made in 10 minutes, only with practice
you could reach experience, don't worry about spriting abominations, at first
(and lizard would still say already), my sprites were terrible, gotcha can testify that...

I personally think this turret, can be very useful for 40K Comp mod, very recyclable stuff.

The Tarantula definitely has some potential, yes. Cut the legs off and shrink the main body down a bit and it could work.

Unfortunately no matter what I've been trying, I just slam straight into a mental roadblock when trying to make any sprites myself, like there's a complete disconnect in translating the reference into an actual sprite. It's incredibly frustrating and I have better things to do than stare at the GIMP for half an hour without making any progress whatsoever.

Believe me, if I could do it myself, I would.

Modifying this, tweaking the pixels and adding some shading+texture you can have a very reliable turret system.
Arcalane, I believe your fear to failure stop your initial push, humankind its not going to be destroyed if some ugly
sprites come up, au countraire, this community will help you to improve your skills, for first time in many years, this is troll free.

You could always do a turret like this here
Althought that may be a but more difficult.

Nnng. What part of 'size of a Coalition Gatling Turret' can people not understand? :oops:

Sorry.

Anyway... the problem here is, again, the Tarantula is too big for what I want right now (although it might make a nice SAM turret, now that I think about it). I want something very compact, like so;

The Coalition Gatling Turret, for comparison;

See what I'm getting at?

I think your kawaii preferences do not fit inside DAKKA DAKKA style of war40k.

I'm outta this before Justin Bieber comes out to conversation.

Wat.
I think he wants it to be smaller so it won't overpower everything and take up a bunch of space.
As much as I appreciate DAKKA DAKKA, I don't think that much dakka can fit into CC.

That'll do nicely, I think! Any chance of a lasgun/hellgun weapon option as well?

Space is the primary concern, yes. It's no use for UnmappedLands if it's too large for some of the places it'll be put in.

I totally guessed what a mounted lasgun would look like.

That'll do nicely. Now for the fun part; getting the offsets right. ;)

Ed: Here we go!

I'm calling it the Widow, to continue the spider theme.
