I just bought the other day the Humble Indie Bundle 2 version of cortex command and was very very happy :D

...But then my old friend Murphy's law came to bust down my door again thought t'd be funny that when I play Skirmish Defense, after about a minute or two of playing the game will freeze up :(

When it does freeze up, the music keeps going and sound will loop (eg. if someone was using their jetpack, that'll keep playing) and I can't press anything.
I am running no mods, completely vanilla B24. I tried changing deltatime according to this thread: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=14593&start=0 but it still freezes after a minute or so (before and after).
I also read something about CC not being multithreaded, so I tried setting it to run using only one core, but if anything I think that made it freeze faster >.>

I can't remember which, but I used to played some of the trial versions a whiiiiile back and I could play forever with no problems.

I am thinking it's something to do with how many actors there are, seeing as I do end up with a ton D:. Plus all of the other scenarios run fine and don't crash.

My specs:

Processor:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz (4 CPUs)

Memory:
4 GB

Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285

Running Windows 7 Professional x64

Any help would be great!
Thanks!

B24, the version you get with the humble bundle, is incredibly buggy since it was released earlier than planned so it could be included with the bundle.

Happens to me as well, it stays at full usage of a single core. It doesn't necessarily "freeze", as windows doesn't think the program has locked up. It just displays the last frame and loops whatever sound is playing.

I'm running windows 7 x64.

IF THIS IS HAPPENING TO YOU AS WELL, PLEASE POST YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM OR SPECIFICATIONS

Here's a complete memory dump of the process as created by right click>create dump in task manager--

Hopefully this helps data fix this!

B24 will crash randomly for everyone. There's not much anyone can do until data sorts it out.

It should be assumed that people's configurations are different in some way than Data's, or he would have noticed the constant crashing and repaired it before haphazardly releasing a build, so perhaps providing information on the platform it's running on could lead to noticing that incessant crashing every five minutes is related to 64-bit operating systems or multi-core setups?

but yeah I suppose "nothing we can do. oh well. nothing can be done, let data release a fix in two years" is a good point of view

plus there's the people who claim it has not crashed for them

I've tried on 3 different systems. Two of them were dual core intels, one 32 bits (windows 7), the other 64 bits (also windows 7) and the final one was an intel 32 bit single core (windows xp).

They all crashed eventually, so yeah, maybe next build fixes things.

The random crashes I can understand, but in this instance it's not a one in a million crash. within half a minute there has to be at least 10 actors from what I saw in the "first signs" scene. Those enemy dropships/crates/rockets are like clown cars :-?

My only hope of playing something other than One Man Army over and over now is to wait for all the cool looking maps to be converted to B24 :-(
