So, nobody else seems to have decent instructions for this method (the only one that works for me). Should maybe be stickied if it works for enough people. Step 1: Download and install Wine. I tested with 1.1.35, 1.1.43, and 1.2-rc4. It probably won't run on 1.0.1. Step 2: Install Cortex Command. Step 3: Get winetricks. Step 4: Run this in the terminal: sh winetricks vcrun2005 Step 5: Run Cortex Command! You may get an error about reverting to VGA mode, that's fine. Step 6: Laugh at Windows users as you realize that the game runs better than it ever did on Windows. Registering works and all, though for some reason the forum still doesn't think I registered. If you try this and it works, please post. If you try this and it doesn't work, please post. |

I've run the windows version via WINE on the mac to test compatibility, but never from linux. I've forwarded this to a friend who just moved to ubuntu linux, though he's not a big fan of CC. Good job making it work. Have you done any sort of benchmarking on it? |

PhantomAGN wrote: Have you done any sort of benchmarking on it? Too lazy, and, as I no longer have Windows, I wouldn't have something to compare it to. Getting a ~20% better framerate than I did in Windows is enough for me. Obviously I can't guarantee it will be the same for other users, though. |

It doesn't run. Wine just gives me the "Starting Cortex Command" thing but no actual program. I'm new to Wine, though, so that may be the issue... |

Could you give a bit more information? Wine version, Linux distribution, Windows version (that Wine is set to)? Try setting it to 2000, 98, and XP in that order; those all worked for me as I recall, but it doesn't hurt to try. Oh, and a lot of people have had problems with sound (I haven't). Try changing the audio to emulation; it'll be slow as a drugged tortoise, but if it lets the game run that'll save a lot of time chasing after other possible problems. |

Hi there, I'm new around here A few days ago I got my hands on CC and enjoyed it running on Windows .. But I'd rather use it on Linux. I tried the tutorial above, but it didn't work out for me. I keep getting the errormessage "Can't load msvcp80.dll" (there isn't a "msvcp80.dll" in the directory, just "mscvp90.dll") and if I copy the missing dll into the CC-main-directory I get 2 additional errors about "Cortex Command.exe" Any ideas how I may get past these problems? Thanks in advance Regards |

It's a windows emulator for Linux and Mac, though primarily Linux. Theoretically you could compile it for any Unix. |

What Wine version are you using? |

What Wine version are you using? I used "1.2 r-4", 1.1.43, 1.1.35. Perhapps I should reinstall wine and the game. Oh yeah .. as I said before: I tried those wine-builds with "PlayOnLinux" (a programm to easy-install windows-games: there is a list with supported games in the programm itself. CC is not in it, but as the programm just uses Wine (you can choose differen versions) to run the games, I installed CC "manually". |
