radial menu crash
Cortex Command is crashing on my Windows XP SP3 computer. The crash shows no errors -- Cortex command simply exits to the desktop and vanishes. I've got a fresh, vanilla install -- default settings -- no mods.
I think that whenever a radial menu appears, the game crashes.
If I start the Zombie campaign, I can see the shuttle landing, but as soon as it lands (and the radial menu appears), it crashes. If I right-click before the shuttle lands -- crash. If I start a skirmish, I can place my base, but the moment I right-click -- crash. If I start any other campaign level and the radial menu appears - crash

Re: radial menu crash
Did you try turning off all your unnecessary background programs? also if you do ctrl-alt-del you can check your computer performance. I'm thinking something is eating up all your memory.

Re: radial menu crash
Most of these odd problems can be fixed by reinstalling Cortex Command, so I'd give it a try.

Re: radial menu crash
1. Do you play with mods? 2. Did you try the game, after a reinstall, without mods?

Re: radial menu crash
Did you install the game in a new place instead of over the old one?

It was... 411570N3 wrote: Did you install the game in a new place instead of over the old one? ...then I uninstalled and reinstalled it to c:\Cortex\ I noticed that the white ring for the radial menu appears but just as its about to draw the icons (I mean, it comes up blank at first) then it crashes. Like, the ring shows for a split-second and then *BAM* Ughh... this is a really really tough bug to shake!

Heh, about now it'd be great if Christ came along and made this thing work -- or maybe one of the developers. Any way I can get in contact with 'em? If they need to debug remotely via something like VNC they're more than welcome to send me a PM.

Re: radial menu crash
Are you sure you aren't doing anything peculiar? Your computer, any mods, or OS can affect CC. And obviously nobody else is getting the error, so something has to be going wrong on your end.
Just for future reference, Devs probably wont be able to fix anything more than anyone else can, they just make the official content, like the dummies, etc, not the game itself.

Re: radial menu crash
This may seem unrelated, but do you have all the most recent drivers/software for your computer? 90% of the time this has no effect, but I like to check it anyway. 100% of the time I pull my statistics out of thin air. Also, is it ONLY when you right-click, or can you activate the radial menu with a different control scheme? For example, hitting the corresponding key from keyboard-only mode.

I'm not overclocking or running some special shell-extension -- I tried turning off my Avast! antivirus but it still happens. I guess the only thing I've got a lot of are games, but they're all stable as a rock -- and this game's the only one that seems to be doing this. As a matter of fact, a couple of weeks ago, I updated my motherboard firmware and hardware controller drivers, which quashed a bluescreen error I was getting every two days. I also updated my ATI driver. And I haven't seen a bluescreen ever since! But your keyboard-only mode suggestion is intriguing. I'mma try it out. Thanks!!!!

Re: radial menu crash
Nuts... didn't work. The radial menu would expand, but the moment it's about to draw icons, *bam*...
I had my hopes up for that one!
