Startup problem.
Hi there. Long-time lurker, first-time poster (well, sorta.) I recently purchased Cortex Command, and before these last few days, the demo has worked perfectly. But for some reason now, it won't start up, so I can't validate my copy of the game. When I run Cortex Command.exe, it simply fails to start. No error message, no window that appears for a brief second and then vanishes. The only sign of it is the brief appearence of Cortex Command.exe in Task Manager under Processes, followed by a speedy disappearance. I've already gone through and tried this: viewtopic.php?f=72&t=15422I've tried reinstalling three times, repeating the above steps each time, and while trying to get it working I discovered my computer had several trojans and cleaned them out, and even after all this trouble, it still won't start up. Am I missing something here?

Re: Startup problem.
Did you install in the same place as last time without deleting the old files? Make sure you either install somewhere new or delete all the old files.

Re: Startup problem.
are you on vista or 7? if so, delete CC, remove it with the "remove programs" thing, then install to the desktop or somewhere similar, preferably a child of your C:/Users/<You> directory, and see if it it works. If anything has been done to your computer between the last time CC worked and the first time it didnt work, that would be good info to have.

Re: Startup problem.
I'm on Windows Vista.
I tried installing to the desktop, no luck there.
I'm not sure what happened to my computer recently, I'm pretty sure I didn't install anything new, it just stopped working one day.

Re: Startup problem.
Do you have any anti-virus software active, have you updated your drivers recently? Do you have a restore point available? Could be your easiest way out, if available.

Re: Startup problem.
Well it stopped working before I installed any antivirus. I had played it on the day before without a problem, and then the next day it just didn't start up at all.

Re: Startup problem.
First things first if your cc is stored in a large drive be prepared to either one move cc to an USB drive or two be prepared to wait. 1.Right click drive cc is stored in. 2.Select properties 3.Select tools tab 4.Select error checker

Re: Startup problem.
Dreadfully sorry for the double-post, but I've noticed that some other folks had the same problem. viewtopic.php?f=72&t=15853&start=0And on a similar note I loaded CC onto my Flash Drive today and tried it on another computer, still not functioning even though that PC was running Windows XP and had run previous builds before.

Re: Startup problem.
Has that computer ever been able to run b23? If so, copy that installation onto the flash drive and try running that on the old computer.

Re: Startup problem.
It had been running fine for several weeks, and then after I purchased the game it seemed to stop working, although it may have started acting up before that. I don't remember.
After several attempts and failures to boot I tried reinstalling B23, and have done so about five times now. I also just tried installing B19 as a test, and it didn't work either. Although I actually was GIVEN an error this time, whereas with B23 it doesn't notify me at all.
Either way I couldn't put in the code to register it, so its probably not something triggered by registering.

The external test computer. Has that ever been able to run b23 before you loaded the copy onto the flash drive to try on it?
Also, what error was it?
