Post subject:  Mouse Movement Problem

I've been trying to play cortex command again after a few months break, and since I last played, I've gotten a new mouse (G9). Now, when I go ingame, the mouse has massive problems when moving. If I move the mouse slowly, the mouse on the screen doesn't move at all, and when I move it quickly, the mouse instantly zips across the screen. At a normal speed, the mouse seems to move normally, but it is impossible to keep the mouse where you want it, as it either stops spontaneously, or jumps around. It's like some crazy kind of cursor acceleration. If I put the game in windowed mode, the cursor freezes, then teleports. Something clearly thinks it is in the wrong place. It is pretty much impossible to play the game with this problem.

I have tried reinstalling, without success, and switching back to the old mouse doesn't help. My only guess is Logitech SetPoint, which I can disable if need be. I also haven't been able to find any configuration settings to change the mouse behavior. Thanks for any help!

I'm pretty sure the mouse settings would be in SetPoint; that's pretty much the entire idea of the program, after all.

I've tried shutting off SetPoint, but it doesn't help anything. Also note that this is only in CC, not in any other games or programs.

While it seems like a stupid problem, that doesn't make its solution obvious. I'll try uninstalling SetPoint. Don't like it anyways.

Have you tried changing the settings in SetPoint instead of just turning it off?

I tried uninstalling it, no dice. I didn't have it uninstalled before, so uninstalling it should have fixed it. However, in 24 hours I'll be running on Windows 7, and I'd say that has a fair chance of fixing this.

I tried settings in the mouse, nothing worked. Again, since this only occurs for CC, are there any special mouse settings?

I don't think there are...
If all else fails I suppose you could just learn keyboard controls...

i have some problems occasionally when the mouse acceleration is set wierdly, which only happens in third party applications (like my wacom tablet's program). but if you've uninstalled setpoint and its still ♥♥♥♥ up, it could be a mouse problem. in that case, as allstone says, learning keyboard controls could be the go if its only CC that is having problems.

Post subject:  Re: Mouse Movement Problem

Oddly enough I am having the same issue with my G9 mouse on Windows 7 64bit. Setpoint has never been installed. Was working fine back on build22, on XP 32bit.

I also have wacom tablet drivers installed!

Since I haven't seen this before, in any other application, I can only assume it is CC causing it, either directly or through an incompatibility somewhere with one of my many drivers.

When CC starts, windows GUI goes into compatibility mode, which I have only ever seen when windows is trying to run DirectX9 applications on windows 7/Vista. From memory the version of DX9 on Win7/Vista is special in some way.

I will poke around and see if I cant isolate the cause.

I get the compatability mode problem as well. it switches to basic windows GUI, and drops aero. At least I know I'm not alone. Did you ever find a solution?

I had the same problem for a long time.

I saw this game again on moddb and decided to give it another try, yet to no avail, there is still the mouse movement problem.

I have a G9 as you, not sure about the wacom tablet drivers... they are disabled on mine...

I found a quick fix that REDUCES the movement "lag"

What you have to do is lower the mouse "PR" (polling rate) to 125

Post subject:  Re: Mouse Movement Problem

I've been experiencing mouse issues introduced in B24 and I finally found a solution. I run Windows 7 64-bit, have a Logitech G5 and SetPoint installed. I had to change a few options to make the mouse as cooperative as possible. Before, it wasn't even remotely possible to use it in menus or for aiming. It still has some funky mouse acceleration (that is built into the game, I reckon) that occasionally makes life difficult if you move the mouse too quickly, but this solves many other mouse issues.

This applies to Logitech mice using SetPoint, at least on Windows Vista/7 64-bit.

This solves:
  • Cursor not moving when you move the mouse too slowly.
  • Cursor spazzing across the screen if you move it quickly in an arc.
  • Cursor gittering (or moving inaccurately) when you move it smoothly (at an constant rate and direction).

Solution:
  • From Control Panel, open Mouse.
  • From the Pointer Options tab, uncheck "Enhance pointer precision".
  • Click the SetPoint tab to open the SetPoint Settings window.
  • From the Pointer Seettings tab on the left, select "None" for Pointer Acceleration.
  • From the Mouse Game Settings tab on the left, select "OS implementation".

I know this is a really old thread, but i just had the same problem and figured out how to fix it.

1) Open Setpoint
2) Open your mouse's settings screen.
3) goto Pointer options (on the left hand side)
4) close to the bottom, uncheck the box that says "Use OS Native drivers for pointer seed and acceleration", hit OK.
5) ....
6) Profit!
