Post A host of B21 problems
OK, so, I tried to install B21, and it really isn't working well for me. Before anything, I'm attacked by errors which say

Code:
Error opening file for writing:
C:\blahblahfilepathhere\fmod.dll

..with the options Abort, Retry, Ignore.

If I ignore the message, I get similar errors with libcurl.dll and Cortex Command.exe.
I've tried running the installer as administrator and whatnot, but I get identical results no matter what I try.

If I DO let the installer finish by just ignoring the files it cannot edit, I can run CC, but when I try to play the tutorial mission I get an error which cites,

Code:
The instruction at 0x00572858 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read.

Click on OK to terminate the program

I can get into the initial set-up for skirmish but as soon as I try to open the selection wheel to do anything, it dies with a similar complaint.

Help on this issue would be much appreciated.

EDIT: Found that CC crashes on exit leaving a bunch of copies of the process running. Squelching these and restarting the installer fixes the file-access problems, but I still can't play the game.

POST-EDIT: I suppose I should add that I'm running Vista 32-bit, if it matters.

Run the installer as admin by right clicking on it.

It's just Vista being picky about you making new .exes and stuff.

Nah, it wasn't a problem with Vista. It was CC dying but leaving trash processes running, while still using the executable+dlls.

I fixed that one, but I still have a problem, to do with CC accessing illegal memory addresses rather than installation.
