Items sink into terrain B24 (Humble Indie Bundle)
Hi, When I play any scenario with two players splitscreen and place guys and equipment on the map, at some point all placed equipment starts sinking down into the terrain and disappears. This happens during the base building stage as well as later in game. Items sink quite quickly, in 20 seconds an AK47 will be so far under solid dirt that it cannot be obtained any more, and in 30 seconds it will disappear from the game altogether. This is one of the showstoppers for an enjoyable match for me. This has been tested with the Windows version of B24 (Humble Indie Bundle) and the Linux 64-bit version. Any ideas?

I haven't had this glitch. Weird.

Me neither, and I never heard of such problem. I think I've had similar issues with stuff modded to have 1-pixel collision and very sharp edges back in b18 I think...
Does it only happen to items? Does it happen to all of them?

Another question, do they dig through the ground or do they just float through? And, did you modify the game's settings any (via this thread) to extract better performance? Changes to those values can have strange effects.

Is everything sinking at the same time or are you just noticing stuff is buried after awhile?
I can't help but assume that everything is just being buried because they're being trod upon.

Re: Items sink into terrain B24 (Humble Indie Bundle)
I had adjusted DeltaTime for a less demanding frame rate on the Windows laptop, and increased the frame rate for a smoother experience on the Linux machine. I deleted Settings.ini on the Linux machine now, and I do not notice any more sinking. Though I have only tested this once now. When this happens the items are not digging into the ground, they do not leave any marks, they just float directly down and later disappear (the item name and the red arrows on top of it are no longer there). For a slower machine, what should I do if adjusting the frame rate causes issues like this? Are there some "safe" frame rates less than 60 FPS?

Re: Items sink into terrain B24 (Humble Indie Bundle)
I often use 0.02 without issue, and remember using 0.025 happily as well. The items not "digging" through the terrain means this is very unlikely deltatime related however, as the issues there are caused by the items travelling further than should be possible under the effect of gravity into the terrain over the course of one frame.
I'm quite perplexed that it seems to be caused by a settings variable, then...

The only thing that was adjusted on the windows laptop was DeltaTime, and that was set to 0.05. Does that cause sinking for others?

Re: Items sink into terrain B24 (Humble Indie Bundle)
0.05 is 20 sfps, which is very low and would normally cause things to phase around and the game to stutter like crazy. A deltatime that high is likely the cause of your problems, though why the items aren't attacking the ground is a mystery to me, unless....
Huh, upon checking the deepchecks have been turned off on the official content guns. Three cheers for the content devs! For getting around to it finally.
Yeah tl;dr for those wondering what this technobabble is, don't raise your deltatime that high or your items will vanish.
For those who want to know more, DeepCheck is a variable that causes terrain to be "cut out" around any MOSR descendent when its deepgroup atoms touch the terrain, and it used to be active on all weapons, leading to them "cookie cutter-ing" terrain. Now it's off, a very simple fix (one I've been using and advocating (quitely) since ~B21) but finally it's become official.
