High CPU on Ubuntu Linux
Hi all
I just got CC with the humble bundle and I'm loving it!
The only thing thats bothering me is, while I can still play the game I notice my CPU is sky high and the fan in my laptop is going crazy when I run the program, even when just at the main menu.
I using 10.04 Ubuntu and I have a 2Ghz dual core cpu with 2GB of ram. My GFX is an intel mobile 4 which can quite happily play stuff like quakelive on without high cpu etc and my sound is onboard intel.
Anyone else have this happen? is it safe?
Thanks in advance!
Mike

Re: High CPU on Ubuntu Linux
Cortex uses as much CPU as it can get, so you can expect this to happen all the time. It runs entirely on the CPU with only minor if any GPU usage.

Re: High CPU on Ubuntu Linux
Well thats true but if its not rendering any complex scenes it shouldn't be going through the roof. Especially with a frame limiter in the software. Thats what the frame limiter should alleviate.
I still dont think it should be going that hard on my CPU.

Re: High CPU on Ubuntu Linux
what cpu would this game run best on? since i see in windowed mode that only 1 onf my 4 cores get used i think i need a cpu with 1 very fast core, no?
i got an Athlon II X4 640 wich has 4 cores, 3Ghz each. i got a pretty bad performence while playing the b24 release, i dont know the b23 release and even if i whanted i dont hink i could get it as BundleBuyer. playing One Man Army is fun but it gets pretty bumpy after a minute or two. playing one of the Base missions where you need to build a base and survive the fps drops to an unplayable rate. i already used the tips mentioned in the anti-lag thread but some of them even made it whorse then before.
I am using linux too but i chose Archlinux(32bit).

Re: High CPU on Ubuntu Linux
An extremely fast CPU with just one core should bring the performance to it's max. At least in theory, since with two cores you can have a whole core dedicated to CC and the have the other one deal with the rest of the processes.
On to your problems. Well CC isn't really a creature of steady habit and understandable logic. It does have the bad habit of hating specific computers, in the sense that you can have an old Pentium 4's churning out frame after frame without much lag and have an XX dual core with XY Ghz crap up with a couple of units.
