Post Inevitable Freezes
Hey all,
First post on the forum after owning a copy for quite some time and it's a technical difficulty, yay for me.

Anyway, to get to the point, I've had CC for quite some time, tried some personal modding myself and had a lot of fun with the mods on here, my attention died after a while though and yesterday I thought of playing the game again. Having an old version and having used a lot of mods I thought that I'd completely remove everything and start with a fresh install.
After that I immediately searched a few of my old favorite and updated mods and installed those too.
To my experience I would've expected at least one or two rte abortions because that always happens but everything worked, I could even start a game and it didn't crash!

And after about 2 to 3 minutes playing the game freezes, randomly.
Now I find this a rather very awkward freeze cause I cannot close the game. When I go to other programs I can spectate the program and it'll ALSO freeze once I interact with it, sometimes I'm able to close them however. Even my taskbar and desktop gets frozen when interacting with it.
Then about 10 minutes later everything unfreezes again.

I have tried playing without mods, resetting the settings.ini, rebooting and only having CC on, reinstalling, reinstalling in another folder and another drive, deleting everything I downloaded related to CC and reinstalled completely vanilla and it still freezes up.

I'm on _Vista 64-bits_ with a _Nvidia 8800 GTS_ and secondary to that I also keep getting (random) errors with the screen settings not being supported, I can NOT go to 2x window, even when it's on the normal settings it says that the resolution is not supported. While sometimes the resolutions work randomly.

I'm really very much at loss on what to do, CC was working just fine before reinstalling it the first time, help?

I can say nothing but that your graphics card doesn't matter as CC doesn't use GPU.

Just thought I'd note graphics card as I HAVE had issues with driver updates lately, but apparently that's not the case.

Anyone else? >_>

that's...odd, to say the least. your post has completely circumvented all of the easy fixes, as you seem to have a positive IQ, more than I can say about most first timers here. :)

I don't know. You already did all of the easy fixes.

bumpbumpbump

I had this same EXACT issue in vista. I haven't played CC since I reformatted and installed windows 7, so I am not sure if it's fixed for me. It could be the hardware. Post yours?

4gb 1068 or whatever clocked RAM
2.8ghz E8600
300gb SATA 7600rpm WD Black
Radeon 4870
Lite-on 26x DVD/CD-RW
Gigabyte P43 motherboard

anything similar?

I'm just glad to find out this isn't an isolated issue. It's a definite problem with the latest build of CC and the way it handles memory.

Also, I was on vista x64 before as well.
