when i run cortex command the screen goes black as if it was running then an error message appears reading
"Unable to set specified graphics mode because: Can not set video mode!
now trying to default back to VGA..."

the screen goes black again and another error message pops up which reads

"Unable to set any graphics mode because Can not set video mode!"

please help i am not very good at this sort of thing and i am a bit of a noob
i do love this game and would love a solution soon

Try going into Settings.ini in Base.rte and setting Fullscreen to 0. If that doesn't work, try setting NxWindowed to 0 if it was 1 or 1 if it was 0.

it did end p working but i actually needed to download the new directx and mess around with the "directdraw" but from what i researched your method would have worked to.
