Having a broken sound card shouldn't prevent it from loading the sounds.
Could this be your problem?

Tried the restarting windows audio thing-didn't work. the problem with the sound card is that the cp isnt reading it. I think it got buggered up when we were fixing this cp up.

It is the "Failure to load datafile object with following path and name:
Base.rte/gui/sounds/menuenter.wav the last frame has been dumped to abortscreen.bmp"
its the same as that last guy as I have menuenter.wav in there but is still doesnt work.

Yes, I have tried EVERYTHING in the other topic. I just want to know if there is any way i can disable the sounds so I can play.
EDIT: By the way cortex command inst just the only game that doesnt work. pretty much any game that requires sound doesnt. oddly enough, oblivion and sims 2 work just fine without sound :D

Then that would lead me to believe that it is not your sound card that is the problem. If other games are coping with the absence of the hardware, then its likely not the hardware failure causing the problem.

Back up mods and reinstall the game; Perhaps its just a corrupt file.

My computer simply doesn't have a sound card, and I get the same problem. I have done everything listed here and in the topic TheLastBanana suggested, and reinstalled multiple times in different places. Is there really no solution?
