He's dead ? According to the Halo Wikia, he clung to the first piece of starship debris he could and threw himself into a cryo chambre.

Are they right, or shall I cry myself to sleep tonight knowing that one of the greatest characters the FPS genre has ever included, died ?

Hey, Johnson was pure badass. He took a halo blast and survived, and then, this one stupid nightlight comes along and puts out his light.

Johnson was even more badass than the arbiter, even more badass than the chief, and even more badass than me with a gravity hammer (I can take down a ****ing sniper with my ninja skillz!).
