Nero - RTS
Figured that this'd be a cool find to share. Now, the genre is technicaly RTS but it plays much more like a simulation. Instead of doing the typical RTS thing, y'know commanding units and such, you teach these guys. There aren't any classes or structures to worry about, neither are there cars or waypoints. Or any way to directly control your peons. They learn themselves . You run your group through a simulation in which they gradualy (read:supar slowly) learn that bullets hurt and walls are solid objects. It's a niche game but considering anyone who visits this forum plays a 2d, sidescrolling physics-enabled run 'n gun/tactical computer game, the odds are some people could find it interesting . Played it before, its fun, however; the learning on you units needs to be faster, it takes forever before they are useful.

Sounds like B&W with less interface.

Re: Nero - RTS
To whitty, I haven't seen any network features yet ... although that'd be wicked. You can still export your crew and pit them against others; but that seems about it.
And to Alenth, I'm pretty sure that B&W is nowhere near this game. At least with reference to the AI. These guys have the most rudimentary intelligence when they're originaly spawned, you have to teach them that getting shot at is bad. By no extension of the term could any commercial game even approach this one, so if Black and White did implement a similar feature I'd bet it wouldn't be nearly as involved.

Re: Nero - RTS
Did you just say that commercial games don't have the resources and development skills of free ones?
I lol'd.

I lol'd. Well, they do, but they don't bother to use them correctly. +1 zing?

Re: Nero - RTS
What I meant was that a commercial game wouldn't want such a detailed system, it'd detract from gameplay. But apparently my subconcious decided to 'diss the game industry instead. Weird.

Re: Nero - RTS
The first thing I fought of when I read the info on this game was "CLONES!" because these guys are just spawned with no brains and then put into training simulations for most of their lives before they are sent into battle. It just reminded me of the concept of clone soldiers.
Anyway, dling now.

Re: Nero - RTS
Mine doesn't even know how to go around walls.
You need to train them, which takes too long, which is why I don't like this game.
