OK, I've been debating this for some time, and I'm at a perfect stalemate. Opera or Firefox? Now, I've been using Firefox since around 1.3 came out, tis a nice, solid browser and I love the customization (Themes, search engines, add-ons) and my current Firefox is about as pimped as pimped can be. But... People (i.e. Kelas) have been telling me how great Opera is, how great Speed-Dialing is, how easy it is to use, and how it will give me the same level of customization. I've downloaded 9.2 and I'm liking what I'm seeing but I'm reluctant to give up all the add-ons and such that I've installed into Firefox. So... I'm throwing it to you guys. Help me out here. As a programmer and a web dev. i got around 7 browsers installed. Each has there pros and cons. Some load faster then others, some have more plug-in's. I use whatever works for me. so i use firefox myself. Side note, i don't want this to become a war of whats better K. |

I use Firefox. Opera is almost as good as it in my opinion, but you can pimp Firefox to unknown limits. Firefox takes a lot of system resources while running though. |

I use Firefox with almost no constantly running add-ons. I have seven search enginers added to the search bar, ChatZilla, and FireFTP. Other than that, Firefox runs with an ok memory footprint. I use it because it has the best implementation of web standards. |

I personally use Opera. It's nice and fast. I think it's more smoother than FireFox, but that's probably just the Mouse Gestures, which is pretty much the reason that I use it. The GUI is nice and lightweight, which is what I like. And I've heard, but don't care, that Opera uses less memory than FireFox. Of course, Opera also doesn't work on some sites, which forces me to use FireFox to get them to load, but that's usually only one in a thousand. Opera does have some customizability, but I don't like customizing my browser. I suppose if you were going to put on addons and stuff, FireFox would be better, since you can get a Mouse Gesture addon, but if not, then Opera is a lot better. |

@WJ Thanky for the suggestions. @Kurrus I have only a few constantly running add-ons, the vast majority are passive search engines. @THOR Thanks, mate. @Tim Hmmm... The only problem I've had with CPU and memory usage is when Firefox kirks out and freezes. That in itself is a good argument FOR Opera. Again, thanks for the suggestions guys. - The-Masses |

What addons are there for Firefox that you don't want to lose? Chances are Opera either comes with them or can be made to have them. Features of Opera I frequently use: Mouse Gestures Notes IRC Mail Reader RSS Manager Speed Dial Fast Forward and Rewind (uses some interesting code so that pressing the buttons takes you forward and backward through root domains you've visited) Lock Tab (to prevent accidental closure) Block Content feature Popup Blocker Customizable searches in address bar. For an example of this, if I type in "wiki searchterm" in my adress bar, it'll automatically open a wikipedia search page for searchterm. Any site with a searchbar can be added onto that, and you can have the keyword be anything you want. Wand (password manager) Tab selection (either ctrl+tab to go through tabs, or right-click+mousewheel) Skin Manager (you can single click download a skin. I like emil myself.) |
