I have an OCD with popping my bone joints
Every now and then, I pop/bend my finger joints, my shoulder blades, my legs, my wrist, almost every joint in my body has to be bent somehow or it gets very uncomfortable. I've done it so much in the past year, that I sometimes subconsciously do it.
I've recently asked my mother about it, and she said "Don't do it, it'll grind away your joints."
That scared me. What if when I'm older, my arm falls out of its socket? What if I get arthritis when I'm 20? What if I completely wear my finger joints and I can't move them anymore?
It's a habit I've had so much trouble trying to break, like smoking except it's my bones that are melting away and not my lungs ;_;
Suggestions plx? I've tried stopping myself and, well, that didn't work very well.
itt we ask the internet for help

Re: I have an OCD with popping my bone joints
The truth behind it is that it's popping blood bubbles. Or so I heard from my doctor. Should be pretty much harmless. Wikipedia, the trusted source for information wrote: To produce the clicking sounds, many people bend their fingers into relatively unusual positions, that their own muscles are unable to achieve, and which are not commonly experienced in everyday use. For example, bending a finger backwards away from the palm (into extension), pulling them away from the hand (distraction), or compressing a finger knuckle toward the palm (into flexion).
When a manipulation is performed, the applied force separates the articular surfaces of a fully encapsulated synovial joint, which in turn creates a reduction in pressure within the joint cavity. In this low pressure environment, some of the gases that are dissolved in the synovial fluid (which are naturally found in all bodily fluids) leave solution creating a bubble or cavity, which rapidly collapses upon itself, resulting in a "clicking" sound. The contents of this gas bubble are thought to be mainly carbon dioxide.[1] The effects of this process will remain for a period of time known as the "refractory period", which can range from a few minutes to some hours while it is slowly reabsorbed back into the synovial fluid. There is some evidence that ligament laxity may be associated with an increased tendency to cavitate.[2]

Easiest way.
Don't think about it. You'll stop.
everytime you think "oohhh... i shouldn't do it now" you subconciously remind yourself of doing it.

I'm pretty sure that it's just the air rushing into the vacuums in your joints. But I don't think it'll hurt you if you do it too often. But ask a professional. But scentences shouldn't start with but.

Re: I have an OCD with popping my bone joints
Besides, I don't think it can be called OCD...it's more a habit...I have slight OCD...and unless you have to pop them every half hour on the half hour or else you freak out, you don't have an OCD...thing with it.

I've popped my joints since I was four or five. It's really ♥♥♥♥ up my finger joints. Every now and then they'll just ache for no reason at all. Protip: Stop.
