I used to play a really cool MUD... RetroMUD. I think I might start playing that again. It was huge.

Re: Great MUD's!
Yes MUD's are all text based they are the fathers of current day mmorpg's. Some "graphical" MUD's exist but they are usually just static pictures.

Re: Great MUD's!
Well, technically, no. A MUD is a Multi User Dungeon, which kinda applies to pretty much any online fantasy game, but most people see MUD as text-based, yes. But really, text-based games only gain more in-depthness, as the creators don't have to worry about three-dee, and all that fancy stuff. RetroMUD has been constantly updated since 1994, and is still active. Think about how much stuff they have.

Re: Great MUD's!
Well, it should be wrapping around the window. Were you using the web-based telnet thing? If so, try downloading one of the clients. They're a lot more stable.
Plus, the game does have more depth than most rpgs of the same genre. Most other rpgs don't allow the mages to summon a vacuum inside somebody's lungs, causing them to collapse. Most other rpgs don't have 62 unique races.

Re: Great MUD's!
If you need 62 races something is wrong. Not the mention the chances of 62 independent and noticably different races evolving simultaneously on the same planet are... slim, then a few would probably be genocided out of existance before getting all that far along. Seriously, that makes no sense. What the hell would you need that many for anyways.
Wrapping around doesn't help whrn the message had more characters than the window has space for.
Omg it has some unique stuff the creators put in. A few new things that are still just attack or defense spells or weapons or whateverthehell doesn't define depth on its own in my opinion.

Re: Great MUD's!
There are 6 planets.
One of the "classes", called guilds in the game, is devoted to exploring. The game isn't just about killing everything you find. They place a large emphasis on exploration. All the services in the game are done by players. You only have to buy weapons and items from npcs, but you don't even have to do that. One of the secondary guilds is a telemancer, who can teleport himself and his party to anywhere in the retroverse, that is, after he gets to level 14. And you can do certain quests to lower the cost of leveling up. In retroMUD, unlike most rpgs, you decide when you want to level up. You gain the experience, and then spend it on either levels, spells or skills.
Each primary guild (18) has 20 levels, and each has secondary guilds. Some secondary guilds are shared bewteen a few of the primaries, such as "Archer", which is shared between the "Fighter" and "Ranger" guilds, and others are unique to the primary guild, such as the mage secondaries. And then, once to level to 14 in the secondary, you can choose a third guild to speciallize in, which goes up to 9. And each of these extra guilds all give you more skills and spells to learn. And you arn't just given the skill, you have to train in, or else you'll probably fail it every time you use it. Myself, I'm in the Mage guild, and planning on taking the "Electromancer" guild all the way.
Also, all the people in this game are really nice to new people.
