Crysis
What are you all expecting from Crysis? Will it be the genre-defining game with awesome graphics and lots of stuff to shoot into tiny little pieces? Or do you think it's going to be an overhyped piece of garbage? I, personally, hope it's going to be the former, because I've been looking forward to September for months now (The hype's got to me). The ability to customize weapons appeals to me, and the extreme amount of smash-able stuff also looks cool. You can frickin' throw bunches of bananas at your enemies, how cool is that?!

I think its just going to be a very pretty, very generic shooter.

Intense hardware requirements, limited accessibility to recommended hardware (ie, too expensive), and we all know how big of a flop HL2 was, amirite? The opposite applies just as well: a game with subpar graphics but a solid gameplay design can be just as successful (ie: Star/Warcraft)

Re: Crysis
So far most of the people in this thread are wrong.
Fact: More people can run it than you think. You don't need Vista. You can run Crysis on an Nvidia 6600. With a smooth framerate.
No gameplay?
No one talks about the gameplay, and it's only the graphics that they hear about. Seriously, have you looked into it? Realtime weapon modification, component damage on vehicles, not to mention that the view distance is a few miles. Think how that affects gameplay. One of the multiplayer modes is "Power Struggle" designed to last a good 10 hours. You know what that means for gameplay? No more just spawning in and shooting as many people as you can before you die. You'll have to find the enemy and use tactics to get the upper hand in the long run. That means sneaking past them and blowing up stuff. Which is where the nano-suit comes in.
The nano-suit itself makes for awesome gameplay. It allows you to be any "class" that you want. Want to be a tank, and just shoot the enemy with a big gun? Set your nano-suit to armor, and it will regenerate health. Want to sneak past the enemy and destroy their base? Set the nano-suit to stealth and enjoy perfect camoflauge. You can use the strength mode to rip a wall off a shack and use it as a shield. Or just run past the enemy using the speed mode. The other "mode" that you see in videos is just the weapon modification. But that in itself revolutionary. Realtime complete weapon modification. Decide you want incindiary bullets? Need a long range scope? Silencer? Flashlight? Grenade Launcher?
And yes, the modding cababilites are almost endless. They've got an engine editor that looks a little like the TES:CS for Oblivion/Morrowind. There's a window that renders the scene, and you can drag-and-drop stuff into it. The awesome part about their editor is, the scene is rendered in realtime; the waves move, the trees sway, and you can test the game instantly. Just press F10, I think it was, and you get dropped into the game in about a half of a second. Instantly able to test anything that you just added. CryEngine 2 also has some pretty awesome capabilities. Texturing the ground is almost instant. The engine knows how to do that by itself. You can define at what slopes that it colors certain things and such. I've also seen the "road tool." All you do is place a bunch of points, and the road is drawn onto the scenery. Then press another button, and the engine edits the terrain, so that the road is smooth, and won't be hard to drive on. Not to mention that the terrain is no longer one plane. Using the editor, you can instantly carve tunnels and caves into the side of a mountain. All of this make it much eaiser to create the miles wide islands that are the maps for the game. Including the multiplayer maps. Miles. Like, real life miles.
It's gonna be epic. I already preordered and get an Amphibious APC.

Re: Crysis
I should be able to run Crysis when it's released. 2GB of ram wouldn't kill me though.

Tis too bad my computer sucks. Ah, well. I found a cool piece of fanart for Crysis. Yes, you will be able to do what's happening in the picture. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/60815485/- The-Masses
