AMD or Intel?
I am thinking of building a pc, which do you think is beter AMD or Intel? could people please post specific models as well. The computer would be used for gaming mostly and abit of everything else. I was thinking about an AMD athlon x2 (the only dual core one they sell I think). All the computers in our house are Intel (one pentium 4 and one pentium D)

Re: AMD or Intel?
O hay, this discussion again
Only difference is how the processors are designed. They both have a dual core model, a 64-bit model, and a vanilla single core, 32-bit processor.
Side-by-side comparisons of their clock speeds--out of the box and at rated speed--are nearly indistinguishable, and to a Windows user, there is almost no computational difference.
If you're a Linux or Mac OSX user, though, it makes a difference. Support for AMD devices (boards, processors, and GPUs) differs from distribution to distribution. YMMV.
I use AMD products. AMD chipsets, processors, and graphics cards (Asus, AMD, and ATI, respectively) and always have mainly out of habit.
If you're building your own computer from the ground up, I suggest you decide on a motherboard first, then select the best processor that fits the socket on that motherboard.
IMO.

IMO. Thanks OffTopic: I've finally found an online decent pc components shop in the uk yay! http://www.aria.co.uk/

Re: AMD or Intel?
I am confused by the specs for these 2 processors one a AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000 Retail AM2 one a Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Retail, the technical detail tables are all different(The top one is the intel and bottom one AMD). Am I right in thinking that the AMD is faster? aria pc wrote: Technical Details: Clock Speed 2.4 GHz Core Conroe 64-bit Support Yes FSB 1066 MHz Level 2 Cache (KB) 4096 Manufacturing Process 65 nm Number of Cores 2 Retail/OEM Retail Socket LGA775 Warranty 3 Year Manufacturer

Re: AMD or Intel?
Besides the fact that they are not equivalent cores, so the AMD is faster--those are not the same socket so they aren't even comparable.
Are you sure you know what you're doing? What motherboard are you buying?
