Post Computer not powering up
Alright, a friend of mine had an awesome computer. Then uh, one day while I was over at his house playing STALKER, the computer shut down(Completely at random, I wasn't in a graphic-intensive zone or anything). We tried starting it up, the lights in the computer would kick in, and then shut off right after. The monitor wouldn't bother doing anything..

Ok. So he's bought a new PSU(Because we figured that was the problem) and it still won't start up. He says he gets to the windows loading screen when it starts up, but then it shuts down completely(No BSOD). Any suggestions on troubleshooting this?

Hmm... this happened to me a few days ago, but I can't remember how my father fixed it. I think he reformatted it. :v

If it gets to the Windows loading graphic, that rules out power, expansion cards, and hard drives. Does it -consistently- cut out during windows load period?

A suggestion might be it overheated and one of the drives fried? Just try reinstalling windows and if it doesnt work then i'm puzzled.

If a hard drive was burnt out due to heat, the mechanical parts used to read and write and move the drive would fuse, and the drive would not even spin.

You would get an OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND bios error.

Its probably just a bad sector in your boot partition. Reinstall windows (dont format, just reinstall windows).
