Help me assemble a computer!
Technically, this list is for PolynesianVermin, but as the mentor of that newb, it is my job to request the stuff.
Alright, so please post a list of parts for a cheap computer, must be able to run, doesn't have to perform well, only criteria is that it MUST be able to run Ubuntu 7.04, it MUST have a dvd burner, and it MUST have two 250gb hard drives.
Except for that, there's just RAM, a motherboard/processor (combos are cheaper), a basic case (with power supply and at least one external USB port), and that's it. No input devices or monitors/speakers are necessary.
The price should be under $1000, preferably under $600.

Two 250GB harddrives might be a little hard to find if you want the entire thing to still be under $600. Also, I too recommend newegg. That's where I bought mine. (7800GT, 2GB ram, 600GB harddrive(2 drives)).

Hey Tim, ever heard of mirroring and striping? If no, look it up, it's interesting and my saving grace several times.[/offtopic]
And I agree with Tim, you'll have to look hard for what you want man.

Dude, trust me, laptops suck. They break easy, they usually have 1/2 the power for same cost, and it's ♥♥♥♥ expensive to upgrade.

Well, I don't really care about upgrading because I don't do anything intensive. It's just that the laptop I'm on is rather old, and its Linux compatibility is subpar.
And being able to go outside and get some fresh air while surfing the internet is great.
Sure, you pay a premium for a laptop, but I've heard that it's actually possible to build one cheaper, contrary to what vendors would have you believe.

Listen, I am too tired to look at the parts list, I am not talking about a laptop, and also, I'd like a list of parts.
I know where to get the stuff; I just need to know what stuff to get.
