A Discussion of Things
Hello DRLFF. A while ago, someone had suggested using a poll to decide a topic to discuss. It was a good idea, so here goes. New Plan: PM me your ideas for a subtopic. Hopefully, we can get a debate type thing going. I am open to any and all suggestions. My explanation of the topics - open to discussion Rules 1. people have the right to any opinion they wish to have, and no matter how stupid it may seem to you, the MOST you are allowed to do is politely offer ideas which may change their opinion 2. NO INSULTS or anything of the kind 3. don't post off-topic

"First off, what is on topic? Secondly, don't post off topic." I vote that we do not talk about baseball cards.

Re: A Discussion of Things
ThingsBy "Things" I meant the stuff that I didn't cover in the other polling options. Sorry Azukki, my first posts tend to be very broad. Hope it's cleared up a little. If you want a starting point, we could go with religion. I know it's a ♥♥♥♥♥ for discussion, but if we can keep it civil...

Re: A Discussion of Things
I can very easily imagine that conversation going badly, due to the tendency of the subject to invoke passion among anyone who has come to a personal conclusion. Although it is something that piques interests.

Re: A Discussion of Things
the discussion topic is now: Things
Please post your idea for the Thing to talk about. The discussion should then logically relate to this thing, which the community seems to agree upon. we already have the lounge for talking about anything, so, again, i'm hoping for a debate. but you guys were the pollees, so it's your call

I don't think it will be nations leading the way, but rather corporations in search of cheaper resources. What do you guys think?

Re: A Discussion of Things
I think it's pretty laughable to say they'd go to SPACE for cheaper resources. That's ♥♥♥♥' expensive, right now and for a while at least.

Re: A Discussion of Things
Yeah, but once we suck the Earth dry... Admittedly silly concept though. And China's plan of hitching an asteroid into Earth's gravity then mining the ♥♥♥♥ out of it then 'accidentally' dropping it onto whatever country decides to ♥♥♥♥♥ about it, not so cool.
Oh wait, they didn't say that last part, did they?

Re: A Discussion of Things
I see the main advantage of space colonization (independent colonies, not something that needs a flow of supplies shipped frequently) as simply avoiding having all the eggs in one basket. A chance for the species to survive when the earth becomes uninhabitable from an unstoppable force, that could prove pretty handy.
Unfortunately, people generally have a massive preference towards instant certain gratification, so that reason is probably not a very good source of motivation for going through all the money and effort to make independent space colonies. So hopefully there's some more directly profitable reason to spread out from our wee little 12750 km across ball.
