As most people should know PSN (for those who don't know PSN stands for it is Playstation Network) has been down for a few weeks and i was wondering what your views of this situation are. Background information: It has been hacked and Sony are trying to get it up but they are taking their time. I have a PS3 but only because my brother made me, but where i stand in this argument between PS3 and Xbox is in the middle, they have their ups and downs, but if i had to choose one it would be Xbox because all my friends have an Xbox. |

Shut up kettenrad. Got a PS3 myself, damn shame that sony spent more money on lawyers than security engineers lately. But yeah, might wanna mention something about how personal information was stolen and sony only told people about this a week afterwards. |

@Liz: I thought they still haven't found any evidence of personal info being stolen, but the hackers COULD HAVE if they wanted to? Oh well, I never put up anything more vulnerable than an old e-mail address. I feel bad for people who used their credit cards in the PS store or something, they must be freaking out. This has bothered me a lot less than I originally thought it would. I haven't really had any time to play PS3, and what few hours I've squeezed in during the past two months have gone into finishing the campaign of Killzone 2. At the moment, I could care less. I can't say the same about some of my hardcore "we-must-play-competitive-FPS-games-6-hours-a-day" friends. Recovery is slated at 5/31/11 last I checked, assuming that Sony doesn't get hacked once again. |

Well all the rumors that they didn't have basic security, and that they were running 5-year-old versions of Apache on their servers, turned out to be false. No official reports of peoples' credit card info has been stolen, and to stay on the safe side Sony is offering free credit card monitoring for a year. They only told everyone that personal information could have been stolen a week after the network had been shut down because that was right around when they found out. They didn't know personal information was stolen until six days after shutting PSN down. What I don't get, is everyone is bitching at Sony for having horrible security (even though there's really no evidence of this), and then saying Sony should just put PSN back online right now, even though the reason it's offline is that their beefing up security. Oh, and Ragdoll, ALL functions of the PSN are to be up by the end of this month; they're going to put different parts back up over time. |

I am just glad that when i bought off the playstation store that i had the money bought from a retailer store (Eb games/ JB HiFi) that way only some information has been stolen and considering how many people's info was stolen i am not too worried. Apparently on the PSN blog it is coming up in a few days... I am not too sure though. |

No security system is foolproof, they can't take the full blame for that. There was a significant amount of time between them learning about the attack and actually revealing that anyone's details might be in danger, this was shockingly irresponsible. People cannot complain about it taking a long time to fix. Unless they want the network in a state where it can easily be hacked again, building its defences up takes time. Sony has still acted very badly though. |

Even without online, PS3 is STILL better than Xbox. |

If so, I... still disagree with you. Yeah, that's right. I mean wrong. In all seriousness I don't think this is the place to start console wars. If you gentlemen would like to debate over the merits of plastic boxes, please open a separate thread or resolve it through PMs. |
