If any of you have been paying any attention to the world news, you may have noticed a pressing issue has arisen recently. There has been much debate, and 34 people have been left dead from riots concerning this extremely important matter. What's the question? It's a deceptively simple one, but we have yet to reach a consensus on the proper answer. So now, I turn to you DRL, and ask you this vital question. Examine the following problem: Now, what's the proper answer? Is it 9? Or is it 1? Think carefully and pick the right answer, or I'll murder you in your sleep. Addendum to my death threat! Leave your answer in your post as well, or you die twice! The poll is just so we can see general opinion. |

This is hardly a issue. It's even more amazing that people are killed in riots ( I suppose that was sarcasm? ), but this is not a issue over here in Britain. There is no fault with our educational system. |

Also, you fail at life if you Google the problem. One, by the way. |

•PARENTHESIS •EXPONENTS •MULTIPLICATION •DIVISION •ADDITION •SUBTRACTION It's the only way to go. That said, please leave an answer in your post as well, or I'll kill you. Again. |

I'm sticking with 9 under the assumption that it's the same as 6/2*(1+2), and as such, you'd go for the division first and then the multiplication. And what the hell crockery random acronyms are these? |

Well, let's see. 1) 6÷2(1+2) 2) 6÷2(3) 3) 3(3) 4) 9 Protip: This is America. You go left to right. |

Lots of drugs, pastafarian man. Anyway, no, it's not. If you're going to follow PEMDAS/BEDMAS, then you're going to do parenthesis first. Along with parenthesis comes distribution, which gives you 6/6, which is 1. Also, changed the poll so people can change their answers. |

The answer is 5. Why? Because I said so. Also, I'm a pony. That's even better than being on a horse. |

Do you guys not know what distribution is? YOU NEED TO DISTRIBUTE THAT 2. Code: 6 / 2(1+2) 6 / 2(3) 6 / 6 1 Duh has a firm grasp of mathematics and logic, obviously. |

Post subject: | Re: Watchu know about Order of Operations? |
The only change versus the two is the placement of division and multiplication, and I thought you just did whichever came first anyway. EDIT: Google agrees with me and all the other 9s. EDIT2: No, that parenthesis is multiplication in disguise, so it's really like: Code: 6 / 2(1+2) 6 / 2(3) 6 / 2 * 3 3 * 3 9 ARGUMENT AD POPULUM! Therefore 9 is the answer. Also Google. |
