There were some forum shenanigans a few years back with n-body simulation. I personally made 4 gifs. I forgot what the program was called however and I am looking for it. Anyone remember?

Additional information: It was free and it was real time

The hubble in a bottle is the closest thing I can find to that.

It was indeed free. It was also real time if that helps.

I don't think this is what you're looking for, unless they've made a fair bit of progress since when you last saw it.
Failing that, there's a list of things here. (scroll down to other software)

Lol, gravit was picked up as a virus by my copy of AVG, does anybody want to test this?

My version of AVG said that too, the thing works as it should though, use at your own risk I suppose.

If I remember correctly you never actually posted the program's name. The closest we got was Apophysis from Geti.

I think someone else linked it, might have been floating around IRC only. I'll go ask those guys.

For the record, if you're just looking for cool fractals then Apophysis is still A+, but I have no idea what this program is.

...You could write it yourself, it's likely just implementing Newtonian gravity and letting a huge mass of particles loose at once. nomnomnom CPU time but that's kind of the idea of these kinds of programs.

Just food for thought, I'm not sure how keen you are for colliding faux-galaxies against each other.

The specific program I am looking for was insanely easy to use, pretty when settings were customized right and it was also quite fast. I found tons of alternatives, they can just do so much more that I don't want. You basically pressed a button in this thing and it randomized 1-10 galaxies and collided them. It was beautiful in its simplicity. Been googling more today and just can't seem to find it :(

edit: Search is over! I reanimated my old horribly broken computer and found it. I searched the readme files that came with the program and apparently the site no longer exists. If anyone wants it, you can get it off my dropbox right here

This is brilliant.

And then I became a god.
