Post I think it's about time to raise some ♥♥♥♥ questions
Namely, what the ♥♥♥♥ have you been doing for the past two years with our money, Dan? You give us B24 and the only real progress has been a bunch of ♥♥♥♥ campaign missions. This means that a bunch of people you aren't even paying have been responsible for the only real progress. I knew this ♥♥♥♥ was going to happen, but I didn't think it would be this overt, and to this extent. The only ♥♥♥♥ reason you've released this piece of trash is because of the humble indie bundle.

You smug son of a ♥♥♥♥♥. You lazy piece of ♥♥♥♥ con artist. If I were you, I would be absolutely ♥♥♥♥ ashamed of myself. You're a disgrace to the indie community. In the nearly TWO YEAR period since the last build, you've been living on the community's dime, doing absolutely nothing, while we've been expecting you to live up to your promises. I knew this ♥♥♥♥ was going to happen as soon as you hired weasel. You're living for free on our money and you can't bring yourself to handle your own ♥♥♥♥ community, just like every other developer? A community that got to be the way it was BECAUSE your lazy ass doesn't know how to manage ♥♥♥♥ in the first place? A community that is the only reason your game is worth ♥♥♥♥ anything at all? You ungrateful ♥♥♥♥.
You better have a refund system you piece of ♥♥♥♥.

I bet he doesnt even care what you just said.

I was myself slightly dissappointed when I understood why'd we suddenly start pushing for a new build all of the sudden.
There was little to no activity before it and thats when I decided to try take things in my own hands and create a set of solid final edition content as best as I can, but unless Data actually starts taking organization and rewriting code with a much better design in hand, its all going to end up running on the current (B24) engine. With all its bugs and lazy code.

Hell, instead of being able to read some solid documentation, I have to purge stuff out of Data or trial and error my way to make something work. Thats no fun at all.
Not to mention the same thing goes for asking how is the final game supposed to play. Gameplay in b24? No good. An engine of this kind would have more potential than this, but Data doesnt seem to care about upgrading it or even telling IN DETAIL how he wants ♥♥♥♥ to be done for gameplay.
The reason why he never released it, is because he doesnt care about CC for anything more than the money its generating.
As many people already have pointed it out, Cortex Command is also very inefficient and buggy. Asking Data about it, he says "lol cortex command 2".
No, just ♥♥♥♥ no. I'm not believing this entire idea of Cortex Command 2. If he doesnt do his work properly for Cortex Command 1 (aka current game, B24), than my hopes for a future game are extremely low.

I'm also seriously considering to abandon the dev team before even finishing the designs to see what would Data say about them.
Since the designs are entirely my work and ideas, theres a chance he wont like it, or in the worst case, care about it even for a bit, so I'm doing some VERY risky ♥♥♥♥ right now.

(My thoughts going entirely of these two comments)
How hard would it be to find a new Data?
{EDIT}
thoughts changed

This is not how software development works.

The thing that irks me most is we all had faith in him and he just doesn't seem to care. We purchased an unfinished game that really didn't deserve the price, and a lot of us, myself included, fought long and hard with other people that the game was going to be completed and that Dan would do right by us. Each and every purchase before HIB2 was an act of both faith and goodwill, and build 24 is one huge disappointment, to each and every one of us. ♥♥♥♥ you, Dan, you lazy scam artist.
Numgun, I applaud your post. Your unique position and post probably went much farther to Dan being held accountable for what he's done than mine. It must be nearly a dream come true for you to work on Cortex Command's vanilla content, considering all of the time and effort you spent on the game just to give the community something to play. Hell, I imagine it's every modder's dream. You've been playing CC for, what, three years now? Four? And you get a chance to work side by side with the developer of one of your favorite games? Our disappointment must pale in comparison with yours, and it must have taken no small amount of courage to post what you did. Bravo, Numgun. Bravo.
p.s. if he posts here with some stupid assurance or whatever instead of owning up to his laziness, I will personally travel to Phoenix and spit in his face.

Pretty much agree entirely, this game has been dying for god knows how long. I've stopped caring about modding as have many others, the same old mods have been occupying the mod releases thread for months, I was expecting a massive overhaul of the game engine with at least a glimpse of the campaign, I mean why not? It's only being over a year since the last build...

But instead he's pretty much ignored most of arne's designs, ignored all community input (despite the fact that it was us that let him collect the second IGF award) and ♥♥♥♥ everybody that bought the game because now it's pretty much freely available. And to top it all off that quote in the first post followed by:
Quote:
A quarter Million U.S. Dollars.. not bad for a half day!!

He doesn't deserve it. >:[

major disappointment is an understatement.

It has just been brought to my attention by another vanilla content contributor that the development team hadn't received a single update since B23 up until a couple of weeks ago. I had thought that Dan had just been doing almost nothing since B23, but it turns out he had been doing literally nothing. Apparently, he seems disinterested in the project, and fails to communicate with the dev team with any sort of regularity.
The bit about not promising anything on the buy page makes me wonder if he's even intended to give us anything more than Build 23.

He could at least let the dev team do something, wouldn't chance the fact that he is a lazy ♥♥♥♥, but ♥♥♥♥ would happen. I personally think that data should give his dev team the code and sit back and earn money like all other rich people in the games industry.(Notch excluded)
But thing that dissapoints me more then all the above is the fact that ♥♥♥♥ got worse in build 24. Nothing was added or chanced for the better. But in return EVERYTHING now has reference errors.
You know, I ♥♥♥♥ bought this game because I felt sick of my otherwise dubious methods. You disgust me data, I buy your game because you had one of the best idea's ever in gaming, you could be ♥♥♥♥ epic, loved by hundreds, on the same level as notch. BUT YOU ♥♥♥♥ UP.

Please just give away your sourcecode, you owe us that game and we know there are others who can deliver our product.

Btw, he can now actually be banned for posting a direct link to a copy protection free version of CC.

Maybe I missed something, but this amount of rage seems a bit ridiculous. Is there a reason that I should be pissed about spending 20 bucks on a game that I've spent more time on than just about any other game I've bought in the past few years? I've gotten my money's worth already, any updates are just extra.

I'm in agreement with the general sentiment here.

But the bundle may go open source again, perhaps including CC.
So there might (might) still be some hope for Cortex Command.

Nobody cares about $20, Ben, people are caught up in the ethical ramifications. The guy basically sold out so he could make some quick cash. He's been living mainly off of others, including the community he founded, and now that HIB comes along he decides to siphon off cash from charities and indie game devs who actually give two shits about their games and their communities. The ONLY reason he updated was for money, and yeah, good for you, you've made more money overnight than most of us will for years, but seriously, ♥♥♥♥ move. We've been waiting like strays for some attention and you've been blowing off and not doing anything. If you don't want to code for Cortex Command anymore, don't- but that's no reason to bastardize it. Stopping the game cold turkey, just posting on the blog one day saying "Yeah I'm done this is boring", would have probably been better received than this.

At this point, DaTa, I'm frankly ashamed of being silly enough to trust you. The community cared about you and believed in you, and that's not something to be taken lightly. We invested in your product and had good faith in you, and everybody was hyped up for what might finally be some minor release, and then this bull happens. You don't have any technical or legal obligations to actually care about us, but if you have an ounce of decency in you, you'll address this issue. That's all I have to say.

@Pete -> I hope to god it does, because this is an amazing and unique game that should continue to be updated. Sure, it could use some reworking from the ground up, but having the source code would be a great start.
