I've been having troubles running Starcraft 2 on my laptop, even on the lowest settings, and I was wondering if anyone could make any recommendations on a replacement? I don't really understand the system requirements, for example I wouldn't know how to tell whether one graphics card is more powerful than another aside from comparing numbers if it's the same line.

Basically I want something that can run SC2 and maybe Diablo 3(those are the only games I want to play that are not on the PS3), and is as cheap as possible, maybe 500$ ish. Preferably a desktop.

I find it likely that what I'm asking is impossible, so could anyone recommend a fix for my laptop?

My problem is that I can play SC2 for maybe an hour or two and then it begins to overheat and slow down. Maybe a minute after some slowdown, it'll turn off and won't work again until it has cooled down. Hell, it even shuts down playing SSB64 on an emulator, and my ancient desktop doesn't.

It looks like you computer's specs should run most games today.

I'd look at drivers first, and then better cooling systems.

Also, for SC2 at least, there's a known-bug that causes GPU overheating.

You need to play SC2 at a lower resolution. You need to realize where you're playing, on a laptop. A 9600 GT simply isn't enough(and you don't have a regular 9600 in there, it's probably a minimized version for laptops.

$500 is reasonable. Do you have any spare parts for us to work with? A monitor? A keyboard? A mouse?

If you need a monitor, it'll drop the power of the computer down quite a bit to compensate.

@zalo: Thanks, I think that helped. There was a weird glitch where the game told me the beta isn't allowed to play single player, but aside from that I think that has as much as doubled the time I can play before giving it a break.

@Patriot I'm fine for everything except the actual computer. I even have a couple of spare copies of W7 around.

Oh, while we're at it, could you guys suggest a cheapish computer that can run SupCom 2, SC2, and borderlands without lag please? I'm having the same problem as the OP

Depends on the quality you would like to run them on.....

I guess the best thing to do is take a cheapish processor, MoBo and memory and invest on the GPU. The ATI 4*** series are becoming cheap, and they should be able to run them well enough. (I have to add that borderlands has a properly ♥♥♥♥ up engine and will lagg in the last level, from 80+ fps to 20)

That's just like my pc, although mine was around 300 bucks cheaper and has a slightly slower processor and a faster GPU.
