Re: Inception [SPOILERS]
I thoroughly enjoyed whatever it was that I just watched.
So uhh, why exactly did the time scale change between dreaming levels?

Re: Inception [SPOILERS]
The logic in that was (hahah, I said logic): That how sometimes when you dream, it feels like you spend hours in the little dreamland versus the half hour nap you took, so when you dream inside a dream, the same thing applies.
Extra points to Dicaprio for starring in two ♥♥♥♥ movies in a row where he's haunted by dreams of his insane, deceased wife that makes coping with reality a pain in the ass.

Re: Inception [SPOILERS]
well the title has SPOILERS in the title so...
SPOILER ALERT (in color 303030 so its the same as the BG... highlight it to read)
so... How long was he out of the country, that when he came back after, presumably years, that his little kids, where still little kids...
when he spins the top at the end of the movie and it keeps spinning like forever... it still starts to wobble... they implied that it was all a dream, which the entire movie supports, and then kinda went.... "Naaahhhh, that'd be lame" and made it start wobbling... wtf.
the idea is that when HE spins the top, it wobbles, but if it's in someone ELSE's dream, which isn't his, it will keep spinning forever, because they don't know the imperfections in weight. this means that when HE is dreaming, it topples over, but if someone else is dreaming, it doesn't... The ONE time he's supposed to be 'awake' he tries spinning it in a bathroom or something, but then gets interrupted, drops it, and I don't even remember if he picked it back up, I don't think he did... but then he had it later while awake. That completely suggested right then, that even the real world was a dream, less than half way through the movie.
END OF SPOILER TAGS
non-spoiler comments.
the movie itself is a play on words because the movie itself IS an inception, in that it plants ideas in YOUR head, such as that the world your in, is not real, much like the matrix.
also, who got the idea to make there own 'totem' to try and figure out when your dreaming that you ARE dreaming, so you can do all sorts of crazy ♥♥♥♥.
Why didn't anyone fly? why didn't anyone use lasers, giant robots, or turn into some kind of giant monster? if it's a dream you can do that. but NOO the most they did was that grenade launcher, and bottomless pile of plastic explosive (both of which are in the preview)
Further criticism. Reminded me to much of the matrix, blade runner, and paprika thrown in a blender.
anyone care to comment?
also @twwig, are you talking about shutter island right? I actually liked that movie alot better.

Re: Inception [SPOILERS]
Okay, so I understood the reasoning, it's just really stupid reasoning. If I dream that I'm dreaming a dream where I'm dreaming, my mind can fully process a complex, detailed, dynamic environment, and I can interact with said environment at a 8765X time scale! (they said they had 10 years during their 10 hour flight, right?)
Still a good movie, even with its holes.

Re: Inception [SPOILERS]
Yeah, meant Shutter Island. I think I prefer that one as well. Not as action packed (even close, for that matter), but the ending where everything the movie was previously heading towards got flipped upside-down was completely justified and you realize you just weren't paying attention (watching Shutter Island a second time is kind of interesting on another level).
I get what you mean about the increasing time thing getting a bit funny. You'd think that eventually brain cells would start dribbling out your ear after jumping down too many dream levels. But hey, it's all sci-fi, just like magical metal suit cases that let you run LAN brainwaves while keeping you drugged.

Re: Inception [SPOILERS]
That portion made sense, but the part of Limbo where he came to rescue Saito tied back to the beginning of the movie somehow, didn't it?

The movie begins in media res (I'm not sure if that term applies, since it's really closer to the end of the film.), in the Limbo part with Saito. Then comes 95% of the plot, and then you're back at that part, only now you can see how they got there, why there's an old asian, how he knows what the spinny thing is, etc. I think. I could be wrong

Re: Inception [SPOILERS]
This is competing with Toy Story 3 as my favorite movie of the year. (MY CHILDHOOD vs Psychological Awesome)

Re: Inception [SPOILERS]
Okay, that makes more sense. The person I saw it with was insisting that it wasn't a flash-forward and that the whole movie was a cycle or something like that, and they confused me, because I had forgotten how the beginning of the movie went.

So uh, I take it a film needs lasers and giant robots to be successful and liked by the public. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/transformers_revenge_of_the_fallen/I can see why it's like the Matrix, nobody flies though what a shame..., but at the same time I enjoyed it because the plot/writing/cinematography was solid, as were the actors. No big fancy robots with guns or hovercraft - just someone folding Paris in half. I fail to see why this bears resemblance to Blade Runner. This film is set in the near future focusing on reconciliation, a heist and dreams, what is/is not reality. Blade Runner smashed together an amazing ameri-chino culture focusing on what is/is not real as in robot/human. There was nothing about dreams, it was all material. I haven't seen paprika so I cannot comment on that, but I find your comparisons to be lacklustre. They're all sci fi films that deal with stuff that may or may not be real. They really aren't that similar.

Re: Inception [SPOILERS]
There's no giant lasers or anything because the dreams are built specifically ahead of time, and since (at least, on the first level) they had to convince the target he wasn't in a dream, why push things? Using giant lasers and flying is an invitation to the security of the psyche to use them.
