Post subject: | Magazines and Clips: How to tell the difference |
I've noticed a lot of people using "Magazine" and "Clip" interchangeably even though there is a rather significant difference between the two. I intend to clear up what makes a magazine and a clip different, for those who do not know. Magazines: Magazines usually encase the rounds, and feed them into the weapon using an internal mechanism. A picture of a Glock magazine: As you can see, magazines have a spring which pushes the follower, which in turn pushes a round into the pistol when it has no round in it. Clips: Clips usually do not encase the rounds, and the mechanism for loading the rounds is located within the weapon itself. A picture of an M1 Garand clip: Wikipedia article on the M1 wrote: Once the clip is inserted, the bolt snaps forward on its own as soon as pressure is released from the clip, chambering a round and leaving it ready to fire. Grif wrote: Well, technically, the M1 Garand contains an internal magazine that is loaded with clips. Pump action shotguns have internal tube magazines, yes. They can also be speedloaded (depending on the exact configuration) with a variety of devices, some of which might conceivably be called clips. So basically; a clip is simply a holder for the rounds, and does not do anything to load the weapon except provide the rounds. And that, is the difference between a Magazine and a Clip. |

Are speed loaders considered clips? |

Edit: Well, thats not completely true, a speed loader is a device meant to make reloading faster and easier. not all speed loaders are clips, but some are. Here are a couple of speed loaders that are also clips: Stripper clips, these particular ones are for an SKS rifle. This one, you place on to the top of a gun or magazine and slide the rounds off the clip into said gun or magazine. Moon clips, these are used in revolvers. With Moon clips, you just stick them into the revolver, and they hold the rounds together for easier and faster reloads. And here is a speedloader for a revolver that isn't a clip: With this speedloader, you place the rounds into the cylinder and twist the knob, which releases the rounds into the cylinder. Suddenly, my edit was as long as the FP. |

Pump-action shotguns have internal magazines too, don't they? |

This man speaks the truth, I shall add these to the main post. |

I've noticed me using "prat" and "people who get hung up over stupid little things like this" interchangeably because there is no significant difference between the two. |

Hey guys, so, I was working on my computer the other day and I noticed a problem with my hard drive so I decided to fix it. People being wrong for no reason is almost as irritating as people who act superior to people who show irritation at people being wrong for no reason. |

Siric you are a good person My friends get this wrong all the time and I always chime in and correct them, then they just go back to calling them "clips" |

This knowledge lends well to trolling gun nuts. But in all seriousness, you can argue about what to call what heedless of correct terminology, but at the end of the day, whatever is popular is what it's going to be called, in the same way all tissues are cleenex, and all cotton swabs are Q-Tips. It doesn't really bug me if someone wants to save themselves 2 syllables and call it a clip. |

So, with this newfound knowledge, do we bug Dan to make sure that guns using magazines have "magazines" in the ini code, and the same with clips? |

A lua script to fix the rate at which the game is being developed? Revolutionary! Oh and you mean 'wright' |
