So, my Dad got a either Spanish or German 7x57mm Mauser rifle and after a day of playing and cleaning it I noticed strange symbols on the lever and just outside the chamber. I attached a drawing of the two sets of symbols. The four are the ones just outside the chamber.

The markings are there to show that it's an 1895 7mm Mauser rifle. |

So all those mean that? Whats the meaning of each symbol  . Sorry, me and my dad are just really curious.

Sorry, me and my dad are just really curious.The only thing I can get from them is that it's a 7mm Model 1893 Spanish Mauser. It's entirely possible it was used by Spanish forces in the Spanish-American War. The symbols won't tell you much apart from where the gun was made and what country used it. The 1316 on it is simply a serial number. |
