Post Augh, Broked Comp.
My computer broke. I think it got a virus while I was browsin teh intertubes, and now it won't start up. Luckily, I managed to hook up my old tower. So now I have a computer with no sound for some odd reason, and a broken one that won't start up. Help me wallow in self-pity.

My old computer that I'm using won't make noises, I think the audio card is busted.(Does that happen?). I just updated the codecs, and still nothing. My newer comp is the one that broke, it'll go to start up, then reboot at the windows screen, it's something I picked up online, I know for a fact.

I'm not the most knowledgeable person here, so I don't have much conviction here, but I think you can use the installation cd to format the hard drive and start again, assuming you don't mind that. Aside from that, I dunno. Can you start in safe mode?

It doesn't even start, and I can't find the installation cd, I looked.

But right now, does anyone have any ideas about the sound on my old comp?

I don't have a clue about the sounds, but could you take the harddrive from your new computer, hook it up to the old one, boot from the old computer, back up all the files from the new to the old, and then format using the old?

Hook up a hard drive with an OS installed (Make sure you set it to primary boot device (Or secondary after CD-ROM) otherwise nothing is going to happen), salvage all your ♥♥♥♥ onto that HD, then take it out and nuke the no-longer-booting one, then install new OS and copy your ♥♥♥♥ over to it.

Well, i can't find my OS disks, and I can't move my files to my old comp. I don't know anything about removing and installing hard drives or anything. I'm more interested in getting the sound card into my old computer, but I don't even know what it would look like.

uh I thought the sound card ceased functioning, why are you talking about putting one into the computer
assuming the sound card ceased functioning:
first of all do the drivers work or is it a hardware issue

I have all the drivers installed, and tried everything the help file said, it must be hardware.

Double post for final result.

I did a factory reset of my computer, and got it working. I have sound and internet now. Let us never forget that nightmarish 3 hours I didn't have a computer.
