Running 64-Bit Win7 Ultimate. I switch users/lock and go away for a bit, I get back on my machine, and I have no internet. My router/modem work fine. Skype signs off, torrents stop downloading, IE can't connect, Firefox can't connect, and I'm off my home network. We have another computer on the network, and it works fine though. Somewhat seemingly related issue: after this happens, I restart then start my computer normally. I boot from Win7, but it just hangs on the black loading screen that says "Starting Windows". I ran startup repair or whatever, but it couldn't find anything wrong. It seems to fix itself after a while, as I'm back on it now. |

This is the only problem I've had with Win7 and I've had it since what, September? It started after WAU wanted to download a definition update for Windows Defender, and the 888Kb download keeps failing. |

If it's "broken", how can I keep getting back on? |

Well if anything is wrong how can you keep getting back on????? Obviously there is no problem because it works half the time. Thread over. |

Yes, with your NIC. Go buy a new one. Also why did you quote broken a few posts if nobody in the topic had said the word broken yet? |

Still getting failed page loading. I'm shown as connected to the internet and can still access other computers on the network, but still loose my interwebs. Also, this only happened once, but about half the loaded pages would fail. This was before the new NIC. |

Wired or wireless connection? On my two windows-compatible boxes, Vista just flat out forgets how to talk to the wireless network. I usually just go hit the button for "get new IP address," enter administration password, and it resolves. I still do not know why it does this, and no longer care, I stopped booting vista entirely when Ubuntu 9.1 came out, and I just use the windows partition to make WINE work for gaming. |

when I leave windows 7 for a couple of hours it goes into sleep mode, when I wake it up I will have no internet connection so I right click on the internet connections symbol on the taskbar and click troubleshoot and it resets the connections and then works just fine. if your computer is in sleep mode when this is happening then it's supposed to happen, saves power consumption. |

ACPI is great, you should not disable it. Figure out why ACPI and power management is disabling your network card. You might have more luck playing around with your NIC settings. Willing to bet that its a configuration issue with the NIC, not with how W7 manages ACPI. |
