On my second computer, everything started stuttering. It started lagging really badly, for no reason. I could move my mouse, but it wouldn't respond until a 3 second freeze ended. When I go into safe mode everything works perfectly. I would back-up and reformat, but I don't know if my problem is a virus. I'm using Vista Home Premium. Suggestions? |

Well, after a bit of Googling apparently you want to be in DMA Mode. See: http://club.cdfreaks.com/f43/solving-dm ... nxp-60218/ For solution. |

Still applies, see: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Window ... b1033.mspx PIO is a very slow mode, but is used if your hd is sending errors. |

PIO causes stuttering, or just slow speeds? |

Slow speeds, which lead to stuttering. |

Boot sector? hmm Take the install disk, go into repair mode, type bootfix fixmbr Should reinstall the boot part into your harddrive. |

Yeah damaged doesn't necessarily mean broken to ♥♥♥♥ and needs to be replaced. |

When I said Boot Sector I meant Hardware, not Software. When I deleted my partition, and reinstalled Vista, it kept crashing. I tried 5 times, and it crashed every time. I think I accidentally turned off the computer when It was starting up or turning off or something. I need a new hard drive anyway, the one I have is 6 years old or something and is only 150 GBs. I'm going to get a Seagate Barracuda. Only $50! Hopefully with it's super speed I'll be able to start Cortex Command really quickly. Along with all my other games. |

Judging by how he told us about his problem ( "or something" ) he was told it was broken by someone else. |

Because I couldn't sign in because my computer broke down, I couldn't change the DMA mode. Also, The other suggestion wouldn't work. |
