Post subject:  My computer has some problems... (Fixed)

On my second computer, everything started stuttering.
It started lagging really badly, for no reason. I could move my mouse, but it wouldn't respond until a 3 second freeze ended.

When I go into safe mode everything works perfectly.

I would back-up and reformat, but I don't know if my problem is a virus.

I'm using Vista Home Premium.

Suggestions?

Check for PIO mode.

Also, it only stutters when I sign into my account.

Well, after a bit of Googling apparently you want to be in DMA Mode.

See: http://club.cdfreaks.com/f43/solving-dm ... nxp-60218/
For solution.

Still applies, see:

PIO is a very slow mode, but is used if your hd is sending errors.

PIO causes stuttering, or just slow speeds?

Slow speeds, which lead to stuttering.

Boot sector? hmm

Take the install disk, go into repair mode, type

bootfix
fixmbr

Should reinstall the boot part into your harddrive.

Yeah damaged doesn't necessarily mean broken to ♥♥♥♥ and needs to be replaced.

When I said Boot Sector I meant Hardware, not Software.
When I deleted my partition, and reinstalled Vista, it kept crashing. I tried 5 times, and it crashed every time. I think I accidentally turned off the computer when It was starting up or turning off or something.

I need a new hard drive anyway, the one I have is 6 years old or something and is only 150 GBs.

I'm going to get a Seagate Barracuda.
8)

Only $50!

Hopefully with it's super speed I'll be able to start Cortex Command really quickly.
Along with all my other games.

Judging by how he told us about his problem ( "or something" ) he was told it was broken by someone else.

Because I couldn't sign in because my computer broke down, I couldn't change the DMA mode.

Also, The other suggestion wouldn't work.
