Post The faster crafting of a world.
Hi

I have just found a guide to decreasing your latency massively for WOW and I would guess any other MMO as well.
If you have already applied this to your PC I ask to either ignore or comment this.

So here goes.

First, go to Start > Run, and type regedit.

A window should pop up.
Find: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\

At this point you can click on Favorites > Add to favorites in the menu and add it so you can quickly browse to it in the future.

Now you need to find your network interface. There are probably more than one listed, so check each one. The one where your IP address is listed is what you're looking for. If you can't find it, just select the one with the most values in the right pane.
Now, right click on the right pane and select New > DWORD value. Name it TcpAckFrequency. Right click on this entry, select Modify, and in Value Data field type "1" (no quotes).

Click OK and go to next step.

Now find: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSMQ\Parameters

And again, right click somewhere on the right pane, choose New > DWORD value. Name it TCPNoDelay, right click the entry, select Modify and set a value of 1 again.
Click OK and close the Registry Editor.

You're done. Restart your PC and go check your latency!

Disclaimer: don't blame me if you mess up something! Follow the steps and everything should go smooth with no harm done. If you have any problems, you're welcome to post a comment and I'll try to help.

Also, some of you might not have the MSMQ folder in your registry, please download and run the file attached and then complete step 2.

Before I sell my soul to this, can you explain what exactly this does?

Weeeellll, It IS tempting, but Imma let someone who has more than 17 posts verify this. Where is the source for this guide anyway? If you can link to it, I'll bite.

I have no idea. I traced it a bit though, and it looks legit enough. I think I may try it.

Ugh, found this barrier:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/815230/

Anwyay, apparently it does this at the cost of bandwith.

Microsoft is a evil corporation that I am forced to support due to my lack of knowledge with Linux...

It does have an effect, why, right now my browser is sending this faster. Believe me, it's noticeable.

Also, my latency went down from 800-1900 on wow down to 300-500 tonight.

Edit: Please Hyperkultra if you see a difference please just post about it.

I can't use the second edit because my Vista is set so I can't change file extensions AND I CAN'T FEKKING REMEMBER HOW TO FIX THAT. If you can just post a .reg version of the text file, that would be grand.

Okay, lets restart! Wish me lucks!

EDIT: Kay, I can use the Internets, nothing is crashed/on fire, and it DOES seem a bit zippier. Time for the real test! Australian GMod Server, HERE I COME!

EDIT: Or Asian....Or.. Screw it, Nox.

FINAL (?) EDIT: Weeeelll, nothing is exploding, Nox usually runs somewhere between 50-100 and it was going 40-50 this time under a medium player load, so I can't legally say anything conclusive, but I can't see any crippling physical damage, so the verdict is: Try it. If it works, keep it. If it doesn't help, then you probably already have a godly latency, so you can leave now.

Your .reg seems to be wrong. Instead of the TcpAckFrequency thingie you have this line:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSMQ\Parameters\Security]
"SecureDSCommunication"=dword:00000000
Sounds a bit suspicious if you ask me, though I can't check if it's 0 by default since my Windows 7 seems to lack the whole MSMQ folder.
