Swine Flu: Blown out of proportion or Global Pandemic?
As above,
WHO has raised the global health risk level from level 3 to level 4.

Influenza is pretty scary stuff. I think we should take it very seriously. Wiki 1919 for reference.

I don't eat bacon or ham, and I don't live anywhere near pigs, so i'm not worried. Wait, is it even possible to get sick by eating ham/bacon from a pig that was sick when they killed it?

and, who the hell hasn't heard of the spanish flu? Well, I haven't felt sick lately, sooo.. I don't really care about any type of disease or sickness, I know the basic ones and few more "special" types. Basics like the flu, and the cold, I don't know certain strands of them like the spanish flu which I never knew existed, until you said it of course. Special like... yes like those .

I did "turn on the news", and they were wondering how some people were getting sick with influenza (or whatever it's called) even though there weren't any pigs around. But I didn't listen to most of their conversation.

IT IS NOT JUST FROM PIGS.
YOU MUST BE WATCHING FOX. No crap it's not just from pigs, those idiots on FOX kept thinking "HMMMM..... HOW DID THEY GET SICK WHEN NO PIGS WERE AROUND, FETCH ME SOME SCIENTISTS AND RESEARCH". And no I wasn't watch FOX, I hate them.

Attn: six percent death rate.
That is ten times normal influenza.
That is still ♥♥♥♥ pathetic.
Addendum to note: tiny percentage of people get infected.
Additional note: you are significantly, indeed almost infinitely more likely to die from a car accident on your daily commute than you are from all forms of influenza combined.

Re: Swine Flu: Blown out of proportion or Global Pandemic?
I hate how all the militant vegetarians are latching on to this, and calling for governments to restrict meat eating, both to try and stop it spreading, and because apparently the meat industry caused this to emerge in the first place. I mean, look at this ♥♥♥♥. Quote: To prevent the mutation of viruses govts must release themselves from the death grip of industry.
This human swine flu virus has been reported to easily mutate between humans, birds & pigs. Probably due to 2 factors:
>Battery farming with pigs and birds in close proximity with humans for extended periods of time, AND/OR >Poor farmers literally living IN the excrement of pigs & birds. Remember SARS in 2003!
We need to slow down on profit-making & focus a little on future consequences!

Problem with diseases is they're exponential, Grif. They can grow fast.

More reason not to go outside when I have my cozy glowing LCD screen sitting in front of me.

You're forgetting that it's a living organism with the ability to become more potent. Note: "ten times normal influenza" means that it is a strain of flue which has become 10 times more deadly. Although this does not necessarily mean that it will be 20 times as deadly next month, or ever, for that matter, the fact that a strain of flue is becoming more resistant and more lethal is always something to be concerned about, because it could very well become uncontrollable and exponentially more deadly if not properly handled.
