Computer price-checker
If this belongs in computer help, move it there.
I want to sell my computer to get a new one. Is there any site I can go to that I can get the value of my computer at?

Re: Computer price-checker
No. Just check around ebay and etc. Good rule of thumb is 1.5 times the part value.

What the ♥♥♥♥ was that even supposed to be. He's selling, not buying. Pretty sure TigerDirect doesn't buy machines. Besides they're terrible generally have higher prices than Newegg and buy failed processor batches.

Re: Computer price-checker
Ebay had my computer going at $90. That can't be right.
I have a Dimension E520, 3 gigs RAM, Intel Pentium D @ 3.00 & 2.99 Ghz, 250GB HD, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE. Cost me nearly $1200. I have had it for a year and a half, though.

Whats wrong with the setup? Upgrade your Videocard, Get a new HD, New motherboard and Case and viola.
And all that can be done for about 200$

Re: Computer price-checker
Personally, I'd tell you to stick with your Desktop anyway. 9 times out of ten, you can never upgrade a laptop parts wise, other than RAM (still, only sometimes). Plus a good laptop would usually cost 25% more than a desktop that has the same specs. It can also has temperature problems if not made with a good design. (Heat vents)
And besides, the portability of laptops is overrated.

Re: Computer price-checker
For the record, I have a Dell XPS M1530 and I like it. The first one they sent me fried somehow (no idea how; it had only been half an hour and it just shut off and wouldn't come on again). The customer service was good, though it took a while for them to finally say that they were going to send me a new one (tried replacing the motherboard), and it did take a while for it to get here. Aside from that first month of no laptop, I'm perfectly satisfied with it. And laptops are great for college.
If you need a laptop for some specific reason, then get one. If you don't have a particular reason for getting one, then just stick with a desktop. The novelty of a laptop is not worth the price.

And all that can be done for about 200$ So he's NOT replacing: The CPU, the RAM, the disk drives. And he's doing all that for 200 bucks. No.

Re: Computer price-checker
Err... I would be replacing the whole thing. The laptop is better in every way.
For the exception of the laptop running off a battery and the desktop off a power outlet.

Re: Computer price-checker
Well if you're gaming, a laptop is never going to rival a top of the line desktop. You may see 8800 but it'll be the laptop version of the 8800, which is slightly less powerful. Seriously dude, unless you have a legitimate reason for needing a laptop instead of just "I wanna be able to take it with me", buy a desktop. So much more bang for your buck.

Re: Computer price-checker
The main reason I'm switching to a laptop is for the mobility. I could use it at school. I could use it... Anywhere, really.
And I've been sick the last 3 weeks, stuck in bed for a good 2 weeks, and the whole time saying to myself, "Dammit I want a laptop."
