Post Multiple anti-virus?
I have AVG free, been using it for months along with Spybot for spyware. I heard from a friend that adding Avast! to my collection would improve my protection, but I would like to have more opinions.
Would having two anti-virus programs really help any?

Negative. Go buy NOD32 if you want a better AV.

Do not mix and match virus scanners. It is bad.

Use a combination of AVG, Spybot S&D, and Ad-Aware Free. This prescription, combined with not going to shock sites and intelligent downloading and web-browsing, will keep your computer safe, requires no piracy, and is completely free.

Replacing AVG with NOD32 is faster but not cheaper. There's a lot to be said about programming in assembly.

Ok, I'll inform him of his error and download ad-aware. Thank you both for the info.

Kasperkey is also nice, but it's not cheap at all. :-(

avast home version is free and it's hella good.
Just dont mix and match that with anything, anti viruses can mess around with eachother. Norton has a habbit of saying any other anti-virus is a virus and try to remove it :P
