Post Free screen recorder to record gif?
I'm looking for a free gif recorder that records the screen while im doing something (like playing Cortex Command :D) and I was wondering where could I find one? Perferably not a trial or something like that. Thanks in advance.

You realize CC outputs bmps that you can make into a gif if you hold print screen.

Yes but that lags the game and removes my hand from the mouse limiting my ability to actualy make a worthwhile gif.

Tape and some Virtual Dub. So you can "do" stuff. And lag comes part of the package.
I don't think anybody here uses a method other than "PrntScrn" to make gifs.

EDIT: But there's always Camstudio, which is awesome and free.

You'll just have to convert the .avi to a .gif in VirtualDub (which is free).

I use AnimGet, a program which takes a screenshot at defined intervals, and also filters out lag by not taking identical screenshots.

Camstudio is great, but you may have to play with the settings a bit to get the desired effect. It's what I use because print screen outputs a frame every 5 seconds or so.

Fraps doesn't record CC or output .gif. If you want to take lagless gifs get an SSD. Or find something that outputs png.

i never tried it with CC but i assumed it would work. im not assuming that again. and yeah, it lags like balls. i tone down my graphics when i use fraps on my world of warcraft and other games so the video looks better.

The graphics has nothing to do with it. FRAPS locks your game at whatever framerate you choose. Plus unless you have an SSD or a raid array or some ♥♥♥♥, it's gonna have slowdown from sending all the information to your HDD. Something like Crysis's recorder but universal would be incredimazing.

I recorded the ancient videos of CC I have on YouTube (and they are ancient) with Fraps 2.6.0.
Go figure.
Hmm... I think they removed one of the videos because of the music I used.
But I digress. FRAPS will show lag and records UNCOMPRESSED, using a proprietary codec, but otherwise works great for CC.

Camstudio is the best niche that you should play with. You need to adjust the effects and settings.
