Post subject:  Computer Restart Troubles

Hmmm I seem to have a bit of trouble with my pc (my other one, not the one im using now). What happens is, it restarts as soon as I log onton my account. It is the only account on it, and it takes about 4 seconds to restart. How did this happen? Im not too sure about how or what, but it seem to be the time I downloaded some stuff I shouldnt have off of some place I shouldnt have been too. Me and my dad have tried a new video card, replacing a poewr box ((the thing you plugged it into)it was from the 1980's anyways  ) and have checked damages on the board. I have learned my lesson, it will never happen again, what do I have to do to fix it? I am thinking it is a virus, and I can back that up becuase I had no firewall at the time, so do I have to system wipe the thing and put xp back on? :dead:

Arrrrg I wish I wasnt a stupid nosy perverted teenager.

If it's a virus, you should start your windows in Safe Mode and check the files with everything you got. If it doesn't restart in Safe Mode and you get to clean it, hurray. If it restarts in Safe Mode too, check the CPU, it might be overheating. If it's not overheating, you should probably reformat... Also, learn to download porn that doesn't have viruses.

Don't download porn... Stream it. lol

Yeh, sounds like a complete re-install is the solution, it's a software issue, why you're replacing hardware is beyond me.

Thanks ill go try that.
And warbz, we didnt know it was a software issue
EDIT: when I restart, the options for boot up normaly or in safemode wont pop up. Is there anyway to force it into safemode?

Tap the F8 key while booting your PC and it should let you choose Safe Mode.

streaming it is just as bad if you're not being careful, there are plenty of sites loaded with HTML/Javascript exploits and all that ♥♥♥♥

with an antivirus, Firefox, and a little common sense, everyone should be fine though

UPDATE!!!!!
We have put in a new hardrive and it works...sorta. Thing is, theres an error message at startup that says "exploreer.exe needs to shut down blah blah blah"
I can still use the computer, im using it now, but without explorer.exe its really hard to do anything. I checked the C:\WINDOWS and it has explorer.exe, but when i try to run it it has that same error message. We obviously know its a virus, as my stupid good for nothing sis screwed this hardrive up with virus' way back in 2000 (it still had windows 98!!) but i hav eno way to remove the viruses as i cannot find them. I am hinking of getting my dads Norton '09 and installing it on here, but is it going to find and remove the virus? please reply soon, as i want this over with quickly :D

BTW: offtopic, but this hardrive sucks. 28.8 gigas of space in TOTAL. ♥♥♥♥ ya im godly :D

Well, one thing is for sure: Norton won't do you any good, cause it sucks. Get NOD32. And run it in SAFE MODE.
thinking about it, you're complicating things way too much. Just reformat -.-

Don't put Norton on.

NOD32 or AVG will do much better, and are both free.

Norton will slow your system more than it will help it.

Try AdAware and Spybot S&D. Keep them updated and immunize Spybot as soon as it's installed!
