Post subject:  RAID 0 stripe failure

A few weeks ago my RAID 0 stripe failed. I managed to install vista on the other HD and have tried using several programs to get back the lost data but to no avail. My HD's are both Seagate SATAII drives with about 473GB each and the raid stripe was 128kb. How can I get back my lost data?

Given that you installed Vista one one of the drives, erasing every other stripe, no, your data is not coming back.

To be honest there's not much reason to run RAID at home, especially if it's not a redundant setup.

RAIDing for capacity is dumb.
RAIDing for redundancy is win.

By RAID 0ing your drives, all you did was chain two drives to the lifetime of one--and since one of your drives failed, you are done.

It is important to note that RAID 0 was not one of the original RAID levels and provides zero data redundancy.
