Post I want to add more ram but...
but the microsoft help site said i should find out how much ram my machine can handle, which i have no idea, and it doesn't say in any of the books my computer came with. Hopefully you can help, here are the specifics:

I dont know what the registered to thing is about but because it appears to be some kind of key i'm not going to post it on the internet.

If you need any more information to help me just ask. And if you can help, can you suggest and good places to buy the ram? (In England)

IIRC XP can handle 4GB or ram

the important thing is, chack on the mobo, how many slots you have for the ram. Then buy as many ram you need.

I'd save up to buy a new one. This pc of yours must be around 10 years old. :-(
You can upgrade it, but in the end it's like spending money on a sinking ship.

If you bought your computer anytime within the past 5 years it should have ddr2 and 4 slots for memory you can toss more ram in then it can handle and it just wont recognize the extra. Chances are your mobo can support 6 to 8 but your os can support somewhere around 3gb tops.

http://www.crucial.com

They scan the computer and choose the best matches for the amount of slots, slot type and so on. And their ram is really cheap. And it's awesome.

I'd go with Robowurmz suggestion, but buy from Newegg.

If you won't play new games on their highest settings, yeah, probably.
Having 2-4 gb memory will surely rock your world, probably with added eye-popping effect.

OK that sounds perfect. I looked through the google price thingy and ti came up with a few things. The 1gb ram costed around 20-50 pounds but i found one for £6...? I'm not sure if it's the right kind though. I think these are compatible with my computer, what i searched was "RAM dx5150" so i hope they are. Any chance you could double check please?

1GB RAM £6.92

1GB RAM £27.61

1GB RAM £20.50

512MB RAM £19.47

Thanks.

Somebody told me about everest before. They said it monitored my computers temperature.... how will that help?

Can't you help me now please? Instead of waiting for somebody else to tell me something later which you could tell me now.

Well you're gonna have to wait for the RAM to ship anyway. Everest is a system diagnostics tool. Tells you everything about your box.

"for the RAM to ship anyway"
I haven't ordered it yet. I'm not sure which to get.

Probably this:

The 1GB one, but will it go with my system?

EDIT: Change the link, it was wrong.

32-bit Windows can only address around 3 GB for various reasons, the 4 GB of total address space in a 32-bit system is shared by other hardware and stuff.

If you had one of those new ATI cards with 2 GB of VRAM, it would be even less, though I'm not sure whether this applies before that much VRAM is in use.
