SOLDAT
SOLDAT is a 100% free to play sidescrolling 2D shooter made by some hardcore Polish dude. Don't download expecting fancy mods or destructible terrain or anything. It's non-stop fast-paced TEETH GRINDING HARDCORE action from the get-go, and if you're not good enough you won't make it into the big leagues. It has over 60 official maps and hundreds of unofficial maps, at least 5 official gamemodes and TONS of unofficial ones (scripting possibilities are almost endless). The big mode is Capture the Flag, and that's where you'll find basically all of the community. It has weapons; Dual Desert Eagles, MP5, AK-47, Steyr AUG (assault rifle), SPAS-12, Ruger M77 (Hunting rifle), M79 (Grenade launcher), Barrett M82A1 (CoD4 gentlemen call it the Barrett 50 Cal), Minimi (Light machine gun), even a ♥♥♥♥ XM214 Minigun. That ♥♥♥♥ is crazy. The secondary weapons you can haul ass with are a SOCOM .45 pistol, throwing knife, chainsaw and a ♥♥♥♥ M72 LAW rocket launcher. Holy ♥♥♥♥, that's ♥♥♥♥ crazy. There are powerups like FLAME GOD, which gives you a flamethrower and makes you invincible for 10 seconds, BERSERKER which triples your damage output while halving input, and PREDATOR which makes you invisible. The community is great, kind of like DRL's only we exile all of the stupid people. It's an international game. The clan I'm in has 2 people from the UK, 5 people from the USA, 1 Israeli, 1 Icelander, 2 people from South Africa and a Singaporean but he is probably getting kicked out soon. Anyway, it takes focus to play this game. You're not going to get good overnight and you're not going to figure out how to move around the maps like people do overnight, so if you're not going to commit to it I wouldn't even bother. There are organized tournaments all the time, the biggest being the SOLDAT Capture The Flag League SOLDAT uses quakenet on the IRC front. I hang out in #sna.gather and #fluffy_muffins but you'll probably be banned from #fluffy_muffins unless you're the coolest dude on the block. http://youtube.com/watch?v=9cctyg-4zNkKickin' rad video of a bunch of super-pro guys. http://www.soldat.pl/popup.html?http:// ... mage10.jpgctf_celestial; Guy with the minigun shredding somebody http://www.soldat.pl/popup.html?http:// ... Re: SOLDAT
Yes. I wasn't able to get them to work... That was on my old computer though, which was a POS.
I enjoy Soldat, one of my friends decided not to do any online until he was really good against the bots. Don't do that, it doesn't help you against real people.

Re: SOLDAT
Pretty cool game, but there isn't much modding to be done that I've seen, aside from aesthetic stuff and general variables that are really quite restrictive when it comes to any sort of major changes. I liked it when I played it, though.

Leos Realistic CTF.
I play as Seraph when I'm at home and have a mouse to compliment my computer as opposed to a laptop. Look out for the Dual Desert eagles. Also, I will kill you. Probably.

Re: SOLDAT
Soldat is CC with sped up battles and less fun.
Edit: This should be in Link Dump.

Re: SOLDAT
Waiting for ver 1.5.0 so I can update my mod... and finally include a proper installer since people get confused by the current way my mod installs. : / Also I'd love to make a custom config proggy but thats not until I learn some real coding. I hope C++ will allow me that. But no seriously, soldat is my favorite game and if you havent tried it yet, you should. But do note: The most fun is online, you'll get very bored with the bots. And yes, it does require focusing if your gonna score anything there. Also besides the "mods" like mine that is a graphical one, there is also a possibility to create Server-side scripts to make some really whacky stuff. One soldatter, Avarax, he's created billions of new game modes that were completely unbelievable. One of the most popular ones is MiracleMod, but before you go playing that, I suggest you learn the basics in soldat. AND RTFM.

Edit: This should be in Link Dump. soldat is nothing like CC, the only similarities are that they both have people with guns and are 2d. Yes there's gibs, but in soldat it's just like the whole body just explodes on contact with a bullet/explosion in CC it's a lot more complicated. Also CC is a (very very good) physics engine with a game implemented into it, soldat is completely different.

Re: SOLDAT
I didn't really like soldat online in leagues and ♥♥♥♥ as much as a private game for fun. It just seems like a "UT '04" game (Random running, jumping, and spamming trying to hit something game).
I kind of prefer slower, more focused games (Halo 3, CoD4, Battlefield 2/Bad Company, Cortex Command, Gears of War).
*Braces for inevitable flaming*
If anybody wants to play though, I'm on #drlchat. By the way Numgun, I loved EW.

Re: SOLDAT
Soldat's difficulty is extreme. The bots all know just precisely how to buttrape you and I never get better at it. If the bots can rape you on an easy difficulty, I can't imagine how PvP must be.

People from different countrys working together, great. You would never get that on xbox live. Anyway, this game sounds great but Cherry T has slightly scared me of , but still I might just check it out for that map in the snow with a bunker and tank. I know the tank is part of the terrain.

Re: SOLDAT
And dont even think of suggesting vehicles for soldat at soldatforums.com. You have been warned.
Also for the love of god, dont download/torrent anything while playing online since you'll need your full connection for soldat to have fun or you'll have tons of frustration trying to guess where you should fire next, before or after the point the enemy was.
