Post Un-deletable Firefox 3 Bookmark Folder
Gentlemen, I need a job done.

I need to kill the unkillable, to destroy the omnipresent, to delete a folder with a greyed-out delete command.

Here's the story: Due to a naming and copypaste cock-up during my attempts to create a folder that could only be viewed by the Bookmarks Tooldbar in Firefox 3, I accidentally created an identical folder (to one I already had) that now refuses to be re-named, vanished, or destroyed on any level.

As you will plainly see:

I've emptied it, attacked it on multiple levels and tried good ol' fashioned nuke Firefox, salt the earth and restore but it continues to rise, Lazarus-like, and pester me.

It must die.

Thank you, gentlemen,

Why do you need it gone? It seems like it isn't doing anything.

Google "Unlocker Assistant"

Download the program, install, reboot.

Right click the folder, click the "Unlocker" item. Choose to delete it. If there's a dependency, it will tell you what program is keeping it open. If it's just Windows being Windows, it will delete it, or kill it on your next restart.

Sorry, Grif, I didn't make this clear, the folder is INSIDE Firefox, in the bookmark drop-down menu.

Gah, my bad.

Didn't really look at the topic, just saw "Undeletable" and "folder".

Alright, I *think* I might have a solution for you.

First, go to the Organize Your Bookmarks menu. Click on a folder you plan on KEEPING. Go to the menu of the Organizer, click the Edit tab, then scroll down to "Make Bookmarks Toolbar Folder". Select it.

Go back to the undeletable folder. Try deleting it. This worked for me in a test, but I'm not sure how much good it will do you. It also might mess up your bookmarks toolbar.

Which version of Firefox are you using? I ask because in 3 b5, one can do such things to individual bookmarks, but not to folders or groups of bookmarks.

Gah again! I was afraid of that. I haven't updated to the new beta.

I'll stop trying to help now; I pretty much can't.

Vanilla google? What.... is that? Although you probably already tried and I may be making myself sound stupid for suggesting it, but did you check the Add/remove programs list for anything firefox related?

iGoogle is the fancy Google with all the trimmings, it's what you get if you get a Google Account and you can personalise your home-page, etc, etc, and "Vanilla Google" is just plain Google. No trimmings, nothing fancy, just the norm.
